 3/4 CLASSROOM

It has been a full and productive few weeks in our classroom, with students engaging thoughtfully across all learning areas.

English

In Writing, students have begun drafting persuasive pieces on deforestation. We have had thoughtful discussions about climate change and the impact deforestation has on animals and their habitats. Students are developing strong arguments and learning to support their ideas with clear reasons.

In Spelling, students have settled well into our new program, SpellEX. We have been learning about the doubling rule and are currently completing a mid-term review of the concepts covered so far. Students have also been engaging in hands-on games to reinforce and consolidate these skills.

In Reading, we are enjoying our class novel Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. Students have been participating in rich predicting discussions and exploring unfamiliar vocabulary from the text.

Maths

In Maths, we have been reviewing and extending our understanding of addition and subtraction. Students are practising a range of strategies and building confidence when working with larger numbers.

Inquiry

We have continued our unit on Community. Students have been learning about symbols such as coats of arms and flags and discussing the purpose of rules within communities and why they are important.

RE

In RE, we have been exploring Jesus’ message in parables. Students created billboards with encouraging messages inspired by these teachings, which will be displayed around the school.

I was very proud of our class for the leadership they demonstrated during both the Ash Wednesday Mass, and the Beginning of Year Mas. They showed confidence, reverence and respect in both celebrations.

                                             Reminders

  • Sport is held each Tuesday.
  • Spelling sheets are sent home weekly and are based on the previous week’s spelling rule. Regular practice supports consolidation of learning.
  • Students are expected to read for at least 20 minutes each night and record this in their diaries.
