STUDENT LEADERSHIP DAY

On Monday 23 March, our Student Leaders will take part in a Student Leadership Day during Periods 1–4. The morning will begin in the PAC with a leadership workshop led by our School Captains, before students head to the Oval for a fun and energetic Mini Olympics facilitated by Corporate Challenge Events.

We are also excited to welcome around 75 primary school students from neighbouring schools, who will join our leaders for the activities. The day is designed to build leadership skills, teamwork, and connections within our wider school community.

INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY EVENTS

On the 5th of March, all female Executive Student Leaders were fortunate to attend the International Women’s Day Breakfast at GMHBA Stadium with Ms Godde and Ms Cologni. It was a wonderful morning presented by the Soroptimist International of Geelong. We heard the story of Sasha, a Year 12 student who has faced several challenges to get to where she is today, including her father sadly passing away when she was just nine years old.

We then listened to the inspirational story of Kgshack Akec, author of the award-winning book ‘Hopeless Kingdom’. She shared her journey that began in South Sudan before she moved to Egypt to escape war-stricken land, followed by Sydney and finally Geelong when she was nine. Kgshack’s speech empowered us all, encouraging us to balance the scales and finished by reminding us of how much potential we have, asking, ‘What will you do?’

Our wonderful morning was accompanied by a delicious breakfast and a stunning sunrise over GMHBA. It was fascinating to hear powerful stories that reminded us of how we all truly belong, and how we all have potential to impact our world.

GEELONG YOUTH ENGAGEMENT (GYE) – KOKODA EXPERIENCE

We are proud to share that Grace Fitzpatrick (11Mango) has been selected to participate in the 2026 Geelong Youth Engagement Kokoda Program.

This highly respected program prepares students to complete the historic Kokoda Track — a 120-kilometre trek through the challenging terrain of Papua New Guinea. The track is widely regarded as one of the toughest unassisted hikes in the world and holds deep historical significance as the site of the World War II Kokoda Campaign, where Australian soldiers demonstrated extraordinary courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice.

In the lead-up to the trek, Grace will undertake months of preparation, including weekly training sessions, team-building activities and demanding practice hikes. The program develops far more than physical fitness; it fosters resilience, leadership, teamwork and the ability to persevere through adversity — qualities that strongly reflect our school values of respect, opportunity and resilience.

Grace will complete the trek later in the school year, and we look forward to following her journey as she prepares for this remarkable experience. We congratulate her on this outstanding achievement and wish her every success as she takes on this extraordinary challenge.
