Eyes on VET

Welcome to another edition of Eyes on VET!
Welcome to another edition of Eyes on VET where there is so much happening both in and outside of school in the VET space. It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through the term.
Students are doing well at their external courses, with most students loving their work placements and others who have already identified that they would like to change as soon as possible!
There have been a number of exciting opportunities for students advertised on Connect. I do hope students are reading the Connect notices and visiting the VET Office to express their interest in some of these.
Health Science Hub has released their 2026 Career Taster program!
Bookings are being made through the website. See link below:
https://healthsciencehub.com.au/workshops-2026/
The following workshops are running this year:
- Lab & Forensics
- Nursing & Medic
- Fitness & Sport/Nutrition
- Animal Science
- Allied Health
Each workshop runs over a full day at the HSH site from 9 am to 3 pm.
Please pop into the VET Office and let our Career Practitioner, Mr Kim Beurs, know if you would like to be booked in for a taster.
I hope that our students will benefit from exploring different options for their future with HSH.
I wish all students a wonderful second half of the term. 😊
Spotlight on the Australian Army Band Perth: Irwin Barracks - Work Experience Program
The Defence Work Experience Program is pleased to share an exciting opportunity for music students to participate in with the Australian Army Band Perth in June, located at Irwin Barracks. This placement is designed for students aged 15–18 years of age who are considering a future in music and want to gain insight into a musical career within the Australian Army, either as a full-time member or in a Reserve (part-time) capacity.
Participants will work alongside Army musicians who maintain a high standard of performance across Perth and regional Western Australia. The Australian Army Band Perth is a dynamic 40‑piece entertainment ensemble performing a wide range of musical styles, from jazz and classical to Broadway musicals and rock. Throughout the placement, students will experience hands‑on activities including:
rehearsals with the full concert band and/or jazz orchestra
sectional and small group rehearsals within their instrument family (woodwind, brass, rhythm section)
participation in a culminating performance on the final evening.
To ensure students gain the maximum benefit from this program, they will be required to commit to all four scheduled sessions, held on Monday evenings (8, 15, 22 & 29 June 2026) from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Applications are open now through the Defence Careers website and must be submitted by 11:30 pm on Sunday, 29 March 2026.
This program offers students a unique opportunity to explore what a musical career in the Australian Defence Force can look like, guided by experienced musicians.
Please find details of the program and the link to ADF Careers, which details the role of a musician.
