NEWS:

Travel to and from SSP Training Venues Friendly Reminder:

Every child, regardless of their postcode is expected to travel with their class to and from practice venues, as a part of our Duty of Care. Students are not to arrive late or leave early from venues. In 2025, there will be no permanent ‘late’ arrivals or ‘early’ departures issued. It is expected that choosing WHC and the SSP, means you are committed to our 9am-3pm school hours – every day of the week.

If, your child is required to leave early or arrive late (on the odd occasion), due to an appointment, please contact Anthe Petrovics our Attendance Officer via email to arrange this, so that it is visible on compass (for all staff). This is not to be arranged via Sport Coaches or Teachers.

Other information

Drawstring Bags and SSP:

We are requesting that all student-athletes continue to bring their drawstring bags to SSP for all of time tabled sessions. No WHC backpacks should enter into the green building – ever! Back packs are to be stored in student lockers. Drawstring bags and boot/shoe bags are permitted for training in the green building. Please remind your child of this process.

SSP - Competition and Team Selection Friendly Reminder:

It is an exciting time for our program with over 600 students across the four pillar sports: AFL, Basketball, Netball and Soccer. However, this also creates complexities around team selection for tournaments and competitions. It is simply not possible for all student-athletes to be selected.

Please understand that although student-athletes are a part of the SSP, this does not guarantee automatic entry to any WHC interschool or representative team. Head coaches are responsible for team selection and many factors contribute to this process, including; skill, ability, team dynamics, effort, behaviour and attendance across the entire College.

We know that non-selection can be difficult for parent-carers, but we thank you for your understanding and support of our program and all student-athletes, whilst we move in to a heavy phase of competition over the next three terms.

If you or your child has any concerns about selection or non-selection, we would encourage all of our student-athletes to have direct conversations with their coaches regarding feedback for improvement.

We thank you for your continued support. We love that your child is a part of our program, and please endeavour to remember the program was established for our student-athletes to reach both their academic and athletic potentials. It is about growth in both learning and sporting pursuits, not who is or isn’t selected for a team.

AFL:

After a refreshing school holiday break, the football program is fired up and ready to charge into Term 3. Training resumes with renewed focus as we look ahead to the final rounds of the Western Metropolitan competition.

Our Year 9–10 boys are set to battle it out on Wednesday, July 30, in Wyndham Vale. The squad will be coached by Perksy.

Meanwhile, our Year 9–10 girls will be taking the field on Tuesday, July 29, at Galvin Park, The squad will be coached by Secco.

This term, the focus turns to sharpening our fundamentals with ball movement, kicking, handballing, marking, and game IQ being our main focus.

With finals just weeks away, every bit counts. Coaches and players are all locked in for an exciting term!

Soccer:

🏆⚽️ SSV Division CHAMPIONS ⚽️🏆

Our Intermediate Girls were on fire, cruising to victory in every game and never letting up.

The Boys turned the grand final into a thriller, holding their nerve in a penalty shoot-out to bring home the win.

Proud of the grit, skill and sportsmanship both squads showed today. Huge thanks to our coaches, staff and supporters for keeping the energy high from the first whistle to the last kick.

Netball:

Welcome back to term 3 in what is going to be a very busy period with plenty of matches in the SSV and Netball Victoria Schools Championship space for both our Girls and Boys Programs. Please students and parents ensure you are aware of compass event reminders and the need to consent and pay for events by the due date as we don’t want people missing out who have not followed this up.

Throughout the term we will be undertaking individual skill assessments for all students that allows the opportunity for both players and coaching staff to gauge student progress and development and assist in program design to continue to extend students and target areas for improvement.

Students will also explore the ability to understand the breakdown of skills from a technical, execution aspect and we will target a particular foundation skill for them to develop a practice drill to implement each session for the term to consolidate improvement in that specific skill. They will also investigate basic and advanced phases/knowledge and terminology in netball.

Student Achievements:

We have numerous students about to participate in the Netball Victoria State Underage Team Screening Days which combined with Talent Academy Inter-Academy Tournament Days form the State Squad Selection process. We wish all students participating all the best.

Jack TePaa heads off this week as part of the SSV 15 Boys Netball Team to National School Sports Championships. Jack is a reserve player and with also play a supporting assisting coaching role. Best wishes Jack for a great week. Go the Vics!!
