Class Points

We easily achieved our 60 points last week, with a few days of whole class reading and spelling AND points for cooking at home! A fantastic achievement. Last week was cooking week and we enjoyed receiving your photos and news about your children in the kitchen. 60 points meant we made pinwheels and rice bubble slice at school, which was very exciting. We have some great budding chefs and some students who have fantastic skills, including washing the dishes - well done parents!

Chook Shed

Thanks for all your offers of materials for our chook shed. I have spoken to Keith - our maintenance man- and we are making a pile at the end of the staff car park so we can assess what we have and what we need. For the record, I don't know how to do this!! Ha. So, all help will be appreciated. Keith is an absolute legend and is a power of knowledge, so we're not on our own! If you have any pine posts, timber, chicken/bird wire, feel free to put this in place. Once we work out a plan, we will put a call out for some help. Thanks to Kiera, Bec and Jason at Strathbogie Shire for saving materials for us from the refuge. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!!!

Literacy

We have been doing some very intensive literacy this term. We are reading Tom Appleby - Convict Boy, which is about a boy who had a hard life in London. His father died and he was sold to become a chimney sweep. He stole and ended up in prison and sent on the First Fleet to Sydney Cove. It's a bit of a sad story, but very interesting and educational. We are very fortunate to grow up in Australia in 2025. Our focus this week is finishing off our Information Report about the First Fleet and the life in early settlement. There is a very specific structure and we have been working hard to create an interesting and informative writing piece. As I said to many parents during parent teacher interviews, if your child is thinking this is quite hard....yes it is! The students haven't been writing in such a specific structure that is required in Ochre, but rest assured, I am seeing huge improvements in the students learning. I'm asking that they keep hanging in! The rewards will come.

Book Week

Thanks for all your efforts for book week. It's a very polarising event, with some people loathing and some brimming with excitement! We enjoyed a visit to the Euroa Library, where Kathy read us some books. We then made very detailed bugs based on 'One little Dung Beetle'.

Mathematics

The Year 5 students are flying through OCHRE Maths. We have slayed fractions, aced angles and we are heading back to decimals. The students are working hard and starting to really show some great test scores.

Religion

The students have been looking at all the different parts of the Bible and looking into different stories. We are learning about the Old and the New Testament and the students are getting better at finding particular sections.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Thanks to everyone who came to see me for parent teacher interviews. It was great to have conversations about your children. If you haven't had a parent teacher interview over the past few weeks, please contact me. I am trying to call those people I haven't seen yet.

If you have any questions, feel free to either email me at mwatson@sjeuroa.catholic.edu.au

Have a great week!
