Japanese

Minasan Konnichiwa! (Hello everyone.)

Year 3-6

We have started a new unit, “Clothes”, and students have learnt some new words and sentences such as shirt, T-shirt, jumper, hoodie, sweater, uniform, kimono, pants, shorts, skirt, dress, shoes, socks and hat.  We talked about traditional and modern clothing in Japan. Students practiced speaking and forming sentences, writing them down and played online games to reinforce the vocabulary. We will finish this unit with an assessment.

We practice how to read Hiragana (Japanese alphabet) every session. Students have been working well and are showing a great progress in reading some words written in Japanese!

Year 1&2

We have been practicing a new song- Banzai Yasai (Hooray Vegetables). Through this song, 8 new vocabularies have been introduced, which we are using to indicate likes and dislikes. We have been learning some words for items around the classroom such as pencil, rubber, scissors, glue, ruler, notebook, book, pen and pencil case. We used  ELLA (Early Learning Language Australia) program online games to reinforce the new words, alternating between Origami (paper folding) and the ELLA program each week.

Foundation

Foundation students are learning well!

We continue to practice greeting, body parts, animals, likes and dislikes, counting, self-introduction and colours. They have just learnt how to say “I’m hungry.” and “I’m thirsty.” in Japanese. I hope they use these phrases at home!

We are halfway through reading the 46 Hiragana (Japanese alphabet) which is fantastic. We will continue practicing every week.

We have a routine in our Japanese class; We start with speaking and reading activities, and then do some writings and finish the session with either Origami (paper folding) or ELLA (Early Learning Languages Australia) using iPads. Here are some photos. They greet in Japanese beautifully both at the beginning and the end of the class.
