STAGE 3 NEWS
Stage 3 and the Possums have been thoroughly enjoying their Creative Art sessions with Mrs. Bull. Over the past few weeks, they have been working on a unique project to create wind chimes using recycled personal items, which not only fosters their creativity but also promotes sustainability. The students have been encouraged to collect materials from home, such as old keys, bottle caps, fabric scraps, and broken jewellery, all of which can be transformed into beautiful and functional art pieces. Once finished, the wind chimes will either be displayed in the school's nature area or sent home with the students. We are excited to showcase our completed wind chimes to the community!
Mrs Bull
This term we have seen wonderful engagement with our Sustainability Creative programs encouraging students to recycle, reuse and repurpose everyday object they gather. Students from the Dingoes, Emus and Possums (Year 2, Year 5 and Year 6) have been working across classrooms. These groups have focused on artworks, sculptures and musical instruments.
In our Friday sport sessions this term we have begun our focus on Golf and Bocce including suggested techniques and the rules of these games which are needed.
In spelling we have been learning how to apply brackets correctly in our sentences. We have also focused on what synonyms and antonyms are for our focus vocab words from our novel. Students are now reviewing the editing process and what this looks like when applied to their own writing.
Stage 3 students have begun leading peer support groups where they are further developing leadership with students from all grades divided into groups for these sessions. This past Friday our leaders ran get to know you games for students to become comfortable within their peer support group and to know students they may not spend as much time with.
This term in English we are focusing on what sustainable practices look like with our focus novel of ‘Blueback’ by Tim Winton. Students have been planning and beginning to write persuasive pieces around sustainability. In our Geography and Science unit we are identifying local and global environment issues. Some of the identified issues have included air pollution, threats to biodiversity, water and ocean pollution and overfishing. Students have learned about some of the impacts these have in environment, social and economic terms and are now beginning to research some current solutions and think of other ways we may help.
