From the Principal's Desk

Week 3
It was wonderful to hear all the fabulous snow stories of the weekend from our students. We hope everybody is ok and your homes haven't been impacted too much. Please contact the school if we can provide any support.
Our school was significantly impacted with fallen trees and broken branches. Mr Lockwood, our relieving GA and a team sent by the DoE are working hard to get our school cleaned up and safe so we can return to normal playground routines.
Week 3 Assembly Postponed -
Due to the tree damage, we are unable to open up the area around our hall and therefore will postpone our week 3 assembly until week 4. All week 3 awards and the Koalas performance will now be in week 4.
Education Week
This week is Public Education Week. Public Education Week is an annual celebration of NSW public education and the achievements of our schools, teachers, and students. This year’s theme is Ignite your potential. This is an opportunity to acknowledge our exceptional staff, celebrate the achievements of our students and recognise why we proudly choose public education, where every child reaches their full potential.
Each year, 3 awards are given to recognise a student, staff member and community member for their contribution to our school and Public Education.
Congratulations to our 2025 award recipients;
Outstanding student award:
Pippa Riggall
Citation: Pippa shows outstanding leadership both in and out of the classroom with commitment to her academic and extra curricular pursuits.
Outstanding contribution to the school by a member of the community:
Jess Kliendeinst
Citation: Jess has volunteered her time to Public Education and community over a number of years at not only our school but other Public schools, making sure our students and staff are cared for.
Outstanding contribution to the school by a staff member nominee:
Felicity Pennington
Citation: Felicity is an asset to Public Education with her outstanding teaching and leadership, ensuring our students and staff are supported and valued.
Olympics Unleashed Visit
Last Friday we were lucky enough to have the Olympics Unleashed program come to MGPS.
Olympian and Australian track cyclist Kristina Clonan shared her inspirational journey with us and taught us the importance of those values which linked beautifully to our PAX and YCDI.
DISCO and Parent Information session Postponed
Due to the weekends weather event, we will postpone the disco and parent information session until later in the term.
Sporting News
Due to the state of Harris Park from the weekends severe weather event, the PSSA Athletics carnival on Friday and the back up date of Tuesday will be postponed. A new date will be confirmed in the coming days.
Gymnastics
Last week we started our term 3 gymnastics program with Armidale Gymnastics. It was so much fun!
Enrolments for 2026
Don't forget to enrol siblings for next year. Enrolments for 2026 are open. Please complete an online application or come into the office for a paper copy. Notification of successful Kindergarten placement offers will go out at the end of Term 3 for all in zone, out of zone and sibling applications.
All students in zone will receive an offer.
Our PAX word of the fortnight is HAPPINESS!
Happiness is about being nice and spreading love all around. When family and friends are playing and engaging in fun activities, it makes their hearts sing and gives them that inner glow feeling. Being one with nature and forming a connection with the environment, stimulates happiness as well.
When you might be feeling sad, scared or angry, what things might you do to bring happiness back?
If you came to the PAX Tools parent information session last term with Mrs Pennington, you would have learned about how you can PAX at home to support behaviour. One way you can do this, is by creating your very own PAX Sticks (we use these at school for our learning and to share jobs in the classroom). Thank you to Vanessa who sent Mrs Pennington this fabulous photo of the chores that her family are going to share. They also have PAX Sticks with all the family members names on them and whoever has their name randomly drawn, and the PAX stick with the different chores is also drawn out secretly, you get that job!
Everyone helping in my family = HAPPINESS!
Have a lovely week!
