Theme: The Next Generation – Strength, Vision and Legacy
Although NAIDOC Week officially took place during the school holidays (6–13 July), we were determined not to miss out on recognising this important celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements.
Today (Thursday 24 July), we dedicated the day to NAIDOC Week celebrations, creating an inclusive, vibrant and thoughtful space for students to learn, reflect, and connect.
We began with a whole-school assembly led by Ganga Giri, who delivered a moving Welcome to Country and performed on the Yidaki. His powerful performance set a respectful and inspiring tone for the rest of the day.
Following this, students moved into multi-age groups to take part in a range of rich learning activities inspired by this year’s NAIDOC theme: The Next Generation – Strength, Vision and Legacy.
Storytelling and connection to Country through Back on Country by Adam Goodes and Our Home, Our Heartbeat by Briggs.
Creative expression, where students drew their own “special place” in nature or imagined their future selves in vision posters.
Clay Rainbow Serpents, inspired by Dreamtime stories, symbolising legacy and the importance of respecting land and culture.
Music and reflection, exploring the life and work of Archie Roach, including Took the Children Away and the message of healing and strength.
Throughout the day, students explored the stories and legacies of inspiring First Nations figures like Archie Roach, Vincent Lingiari, Ruby Hunter, and Oodgeroo Noonuccal, and reflected on how they too can be part of a strong and visionary next generation.
We’re proud of how deeply students engaged with these themes and how meaningfully they celebrated the culture and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
