Adapt, Survive, Thrive: 5C Goes Wild!
Greetings from the coolest classroom in the jungle – 5C!
This term, we’ve been diving into the wild world of animal adaptations, and let’s just say... it’s been PAW-sitively fascinating! We’ve learned that animals are basically survival experts, using all kinds of clever tricks to stay alive in their environments. There are three main types of adaptations, and here’s what we now know:
Structural Adaptations
These are body parts that help animals survive. Think webbed feet, thick fur, sharp claws, and camouflage. Ever seen a chameleon turn into a leaf?
Behavioural Adaptations
These are things animals do to survive. Some migrate to warmer places, others hibernate, and some just run away really fast. We don’t blame them.
Physiological Adaptations
These are the inside-body superpowers. Arctic foxes can change their fur colour depending on the season, and some desert frogs can store water like little amphibious water bottles. Impressive, right?
To become adaptation experts, we first did some research using books, videos, and articles to gather important facts. Then we tried a creative technique called sketch noting – it’s like mixing art and information! Instead of just writing notes, we drew labelled pictures, symbols, and diagrams to show what we were learning. It helped us remember tricky science words (like physiological) and made our pages look amazing. Think science meets comic book – with brains and claws!
Fun Facts We Loved:
- A penguin’s feathers are more waterproof than your raincoat.
- Some lizards can squirt blood from their eyes. We were both horrified and amazed.
- The Australian thorny devil drinks through its skin. That’s one way to hydrate!
Until next time – stay curious and adapt like a champion!
