What's On In 5/6

BUDDIES:
Our Grade 5/6 students have been thoroughly enjoying their time with their younger buddies. These regular sessions are more than just fun — they help build friendships, confidence, and a strong sense of community across year levels. Whether it’s reading a favourite picture storybook, playing games, or helping with simple classroom tasks, the 5/6s have stepped up as positive role models. It's been wonderful to see their leadership skills in action as they show patience, kindness, and care towards their buddies. The smiles and laughter shared during these sessions speak volumes about the connections being made!
QUESTACON:
Last term, they participated in Questacon and what an experience it was. Many activities required persistence and teamwork, and it was inspiring to watch students embrace the challenge. There were moments of frustration, but even more moments of triumph as they pushed through and completed tasks they initially thought were too difficult. The thrill of solving a problem or getting a design to work brought a real sense of accomplishment and pride. It was a brilliant reminder that learning is not just about getting it right — it’s about giving it a go, learning from mistakes, and celebrating breakthroughs together.
GARDEN:
In Garden, we were conducting an experiment to see which kind of soil worms enjoyed the most! Most groups decided to do a moist vs dry experiment. These results were the most shocking to the class, as worms preferred dry over moist. Worms live in a wet, humid environment deep in the soil…so everyone was obviously expecting moist.
We also learnt some intriguing facts along the way. We used our findings to craft a poster that displayed detailed diagrams and the full process. We all had tons of fun learning about the outdoors, within our very own classroom. Cale H
