ICCES Chess Tournament
On Tuesday , 5 August, College proudly participated in the 2025 ICCES Chess Tournament for the very first time.
Represented by both a junior and a senior team, this exciting new venture into competitive chess was held in Bacchus Marsh Grammar School and featured seven rounds of play across the day.
Despite facing strong and experienced opponents from other schools, our students approached each game with focus, determination, and sportsmanship.
The competition was intense, yet the atmosphere remained friendly and welcoming. Many students made new connections with peers from other schools who share a passion for chess.
Throughout the tournament, almost every student achieved at least one win, and all gained valuable experience and insight into strategy and gameplay. The growth in skill and confidence across the day was clear to see, and students came away with a renewed enthusiasm for the game.
It was a long day, with early travel to Bacchus Marsh and a late return, but the energy and commitment of the players never wavered. Feedback from students was overwhelmingly positive, with many already expressing eagerness to return in 2026.
We hope to expand our presence at next year’s tournament by entering an intermediate team in addition to our junior and senior representatives.
The day was a great success, filled with learning, challenge, and camaraderie. Congratulations to all participants for representing the College with pride.
