Division 1 Women

This week, we celebrated the return of Miss Waldron from Central Australia. Versing Dunkeld Blue, we got off to a cracking start with Skye Headlam scoring from the post, set up by an amazing pass from Sophie Merrin, in a set play that we have been perfecting in training. Our defence was on fire, with Georgia Adams dominating in the half and Sophie Spence being our brick wall in the back line. Our game was at a stalemate for a quarter with the scores tied 2 all. Chloe Headlam's buzzer-beating back stick secured us the win (3 - 2) in the final seconds of the game. This week we sadly farewell two players - come along and support Daisy and Rosie in their final game with us on Friday, 5pm at Pedrina Park.

ICCES Cross Country

On Tuesday, 5 August, the College Cross Country team competed at the Independent Country Co-education Schools (ICCES) carnival at Bundoora Park in Melbourne.

Our team took the bus on the long trip to Melbourne to compete at ICCES. Despite the 6:30 am start, the bus was full of anticipation for the day ahead.

The course was a challenging one with some big hills and plenty of uneven ground.

Some notable performances on the day were Mania Bremner finishing first in his age group and Yolanda O’Sullivan, who finished 3rd in her age group.  Many other runners ran PBs and gave their all, which was great to see. Thanks to Hillview Grammar for holding the day and to Mr Monk for his support and organisation.

Coleraine Field and Game Shoot

Last Tuesday, the Hamilton and Alexandra College shooting team competed at Tahara in the Coleraine Field and Game School Shoot. The event attracted around 100 competitors, with our school entering three squads to test their skills.

Each shooter completed a round of 30 targets, spread across 10 different stands that offered a wide variety of challenging shots. The competition was well set up and ran smoothly throughout the day. All our shooters performed admirably, with some narrowly missing out on qualifying for a finals shoot-off.

The team will now return to Monday night training sessions after school, as we set our sights on the upcoming South West Zone School Shoot, which will take place in Noorat later this term.

Netball – ICCES Winter Competitions Recap

Junior Girls (Year 7/8)

In the final three days of Term Two, our Junior Girls Netball Team travelled to Shepparton to compete in the ICCES Winter Competition. All nine players were filled with a mixture of nerves and excitement, eager to put their netball skills to the test. They kicked off the tournament with a narrow loss but quickly bounced back, winning their second game. A draw followed, then two strong wins to close out the day, leaving them ranked second heading into the finals.

On the second day, they faced the top team in a tight semi-final, falling short by just a few goals. Fortunately, they had another chance to make the Grand Final and, after a hard-fought one-goal win over Highview, they secured their spot. In the final, they came up against GVGS and despite giving it their all and being backed by an incredible cheer squad, they finished as runners-up. The team showed resilience, skill, and strong teamwork throughout — it was a fantastic experience for both individual and team development. A big thank you goes out to Miss Dixon for coaching the girls.

Intermediate Girls (Year 9/10)

The intermediate girls started the tournament with two solid wins and, despite tougher matches later on, maintained strong pressure to finish 4th on the ladder, placing them in a competitive position for the finals. The following day began with a win that boosted the team’s morale. Heading confidently into our next game, they battled through four close quarters but narrowly missed out on a win. Regardless, all players gave their best and helped them secure 4th overall in the competition. A big thank you to Mrs Hausler for her coaching and support. The team is already looking forward to the next competition later this term.

Senior Girls (Year 11/12)

The Senior Girls Netball Team also made the journey to Shepparton for the ICCES Winter Competition. Although we didn’t come home with first place, the team showed impressive determination, growth, and sportsmanship throughout. With every game, our performance improved, resulting in several well-earned victories. In the finals, we played a strong semi-final but had a tough loss in the preliminary final against Bacchus Marsh, finishing 3rd overall. Thank you to Mrs Sharnah Malseed for coaching and to the umpires who supported the teams across the event.

Thank you to Honour (Gappy) for looking after all the netballers across the two days, your determination and consideration don’t go unnoticed. For all the teams, it was a great competition full of learning, growth, and team spirit. Everyone is looking forward to the schoolgirl’s competition later this term, and we cannot wait.
