Our boarders of the week are Oli Credlin, Sam O’Sullivan, and James Heazlewood. These three boys are shining examples of how to approach school life and boarding. Our Year 11 cohort is quite a large group, and they are all indeed very busy. Oli, Sam and James have heavy football commitments during the week, whilst also balancing their study. All three share a strong background in the agriculture industry with their family and all are equally looking into this as their future occupation; possibly a GAP year after Year 12 may be on cards too.

Their fine example to others is in the way they are able to show mateship amongst the entire Speirs House, commit to their fitness program, keep up to date and work hard at their academics, and finally and most notable for me is the way in which they treat and speak to others. These three young men are great examples to younger boys, and a positive example of the College Boarding House and School at large – well done gentlemen.

New GAPPER – Jemima

Before coming to Australia, I kept being told about all the deadly animals that I would be sure to encounter on a daily basis, and that I would have kangaroos bouncing into my room every night. But despite these rumours, I can safely say I have not been bitten by a deadly spider (yet). Having only been here two weeks, I have already found the local area to be great fun to explore, and I have taken an interest in local landmarks as well as Melbourne.

Everyone has been incredibly welcoming, and I have really enjoyed starting to get to know both the students and the staff. I am very much looking forward to getting more involved in school life, particularly with the cricket season coming up! I am grateful to be given this opportunity, and hopefully those kangaroos keep themselves out of my room!

Leadership program – Year 11

Last week, we started our Year 11 leadership program, and it was a hit. Current student leaders, Henrietta Rusell, Henry Russell, Jack Jarvis, and Harry Dorahy were wonderful in their perspective of leadership, what they have learnt, and how they have approached Year 12. With their authentic and candid commentary, our Year 11s were highly engaged in their insights and suggestions.

Miss Waldron and I presented the formal leadership program, offering top tips on character strengths, types of leadership, leading students, and starting your resume. This week, we welcome Dr Horne to present on writing a successful application and providing interview tips.

I thank our Year 11 students for their enthusiasm and interest, and look forward to hearing of their intentions for 2026. I am confident that we are well-positioned to build upon the success of our current student leaders.
