Chess

Round 4 of the NSW Country Secondary Schools Chess Competition (North West Region) was played out at OCC on Thursday, 31 July.

Our players were looking forward to the matches against the students from Inverell's Holy Trinity School, but as the matches progressed, it became clear that we were up against some quite experienced players.

Unfortunately, all four competition players (Will Kentwell, Isaac Hayes, Nathan Andrews, and Ethan Curaming) had losses. Following the competitive matches, these students had the opportunity to participate in friendly matches alongside Fayth Jolliffe, Charlie Streeting, Zeth Galope, and Steven Edlington against other Holy Trinity students.

The students are continuing to develop their skills and are looking to forward to the Armidale Invitational taking place at OCC in week 8.

Olympics Unleashed - Kristina Clonan

On Friday 1st August, Year 10 had the opportunity to be a part of a presentation by Australian Olympian Kristina Clonan as part of the Olympics Unleashed program.

Olympics Unleashed connects athletes with schools from across the country to inspire students to find and follow their passion, and provide lessons in goal setting, overcoming challenges and developing resilience.

Kristina Clonan drew on her Olympic journey and how she overcame challenges to compete in her chosen sport of Track Cycling - Sprint Cycling at the highest level. She inspired our Year 10 students at O'Connor Catholic College to be the best possible versions of themselves - whether that's in school, at home, on the sporting field or with their friends.
