BOOK PARADE

We are looking forward to our annual Book Week Parade to celebrate the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Awards. All students and staff are dressing up as a favourite book character. There is no need to go to a lot of expense. Have a look around the house for items you can use to represent the character.

This is the 80th year of the awards and I am sure many of our parents/carers remember dressing up for Book Parades at their primary school over the years. Maybe you would like to share your memories with your family.

What do you remember dressing as for your parade?

Our Book Parade is being held on Monday morning, 25th August as a way to round up our Book Week activities. The students will be experiencing many of this year’s short list books during library and in their classrooms.

AUGUST LIBRARY CHALLENGE: Book an adventure

For the remainder of the year there will be a monthly library challenge in which students may choose to participate in at home for a bit of fun.

All books take us on adventure, whether it be into the past or the future; to a jungle or a zoo; to the outback or the beach; to a game of sport or a birthday party; to the pyramids or the streets of Paris.

This month, I challenge the students to bring a photo of themselves to school showing them reading a book in an unusual or favourite reading place. They can be as creative as they like. Are they inside or outside? Where are they?  What are they doing? Are they alone or with a favourite toy or pet? Make sure your child’s name and class are on the photo. (The photos will be displayed in school and only published on the school Facebook page/newsletter if permissions have been given)

Photos are to be at school by August 29th. All students participating will receive DOJO points towards our school movie target. Check out these ideas …

Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Cross Country News

Well Done Ruby.

Breakfast Club Update

The Breakfast Club continues to be popular again this term.

The Breakfast Club was established in 2022 to support those students that struggle to have a breakfast before arriving at school.

It provides an opportunity for students to come through, grab some brekky before tackling the school day - in the process aiding their learning and focus by getting some food in their systems!

While still catering for those students it appears that a large majority of those attending are coming for a second breakfast.

We are seeking donations of non-perishable breakfast foods (e.g. Cereal, jam and spreads or a gold coin donation to purchase bread, milk, and butter) to ensure we can continue the program for all students.

Please note that Breakfast Club is NOT a substitute for the SAC program - rather a place for students to come and grab a cup of cereal or piece of toast, particularly if they’ve not been able to at home, once the school gates are open at 8.40am.

The SAC program has also extended its breakfast time, to capture later arrivals.

Donations can be left at the office or Breakfast Club.

Kind Regards

Sue
