Welcome to IPS
Our staff and students are proud to be part of a strong school community. This isn't just educators, administrators and students sharing a common space, but includes parents and extended families too. Here we have a thriving community built on mutual respect, collaboration, common goals, shared values. Our school values are what shape our actions and define our culture.
A parent spoke to me this week, about how glad she was that she had moved her children from another school to IPS because here, the school environment and culture was supportive, friendly and inclusive. The strong connection and partnership between home and school is what shapes our culture and determines the success of our students. This is evident each day when we all model the school values but even more so when we see so many parents coming along with their children to parent teacher conferences that took place yesterday and showing up to cheer on their children at school events such as the upcoming Athletics day next Tuesday.
Year 3-6 House Athletics - Next Tuesday
This year the year 3-6 students will be heading to the Collingwood Athletics track to take part in the house athletics event.
Students will travel by coach to the venue, leaving school at 9.15am, and returning by coach back to school by 3pm.
Students get the opportunity to take part in a variety of track and field events. They can wear house colours and will need food and water for the day. Annette from the canteen will be at the venue and will take lunch orders for that day.
Warm jackets and waterproofs are also recommended as can get cold and wet this time of year.
Parent helpers will be required on the day to help run events, please contact Mr Bull if you are able to help.
Kids Helpline Largest Anti Bullying Lesson
On Monday 11th August our students will have the opportunity to take part in the Kids Helpline Largest Anti Bullying lesson as recognition of the Bullying No Way Week.
They will join primary schools from across Australia in the largest ever anti-bullying lesson.
The lessons are created by qualified Kids Helpline Counsellors and will provide students with expert tips, tools and strategies to respond to bullying and to recognise and stop their own behaviours before they escalate.
The lesson dovetails into our Social and Emotion Learning program, informed by the Rights Resilience and Respectful Relationships program and enhanced by MPower and Revved Up programs at years 3 and 5.
IPS Chess Tournament Next Thursday
Just before 8am every Tuesday morning, you can see excited students queuing at the school gate for their chess lessons with Northern Star. The chess lessons have always been very well subscribed with lots of students enjoying the challenge.
Following the success of last year's tournament, IPS has once again partnered with Northern Star Chess as a venue for a chess tournament next Thursday to enable our students to compete with students from other schools. See the Community News Page for more details.
Any queries regarding the tournament should be directed to info@northernstarchess.com
School Entrance Reminder
Students and families are reminded that students must enter the school through one of the school gates on, Lowe or Tate Streets or Ailsa Grove. Unless students have a morning class or parents have a meeting, please wait until 8.45am when the school gates open. Students should not be entering the school via the front door, nor be on the school yard prior to 8.45am. so that we are able to meet our duty of care and have a staff member of duty to supervise children. We respectfully ask families for their support in this matter.
Year 6 Canberra Tour Renew Thai Embassy Relationship
We so pleased to be able renew our relationship with the Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra. Yesterday afternoon, Mr Kent received fantastic news from Dollada Thamtanakom,
Public Relations & Cultural Affairs Assistant at the Royal Thai Embassy, Canberra, informing us that the Embassy will again, be hosting our Year 6 Canberra campers.
Khun Thamtanakom states,
"[Embassy staff] look forward to welcoming you all the embassy in October."
This is a unique and wonderful enrichment to our year 6 camp program in Canberra.
Finally
A positive school culture is built on the foundation of student voice, which empowers students to become responsible and respectful members of our community. This is clearly demonstrated by the students who have taken the initiative to establish and lead various clubs, such as the peer tutoring and Italian clubs, and those who have stepped up to coach sports teams. By taking on these and many other leadership roles, students are not only enriching our school environment but also developing valuable life long skills.
At Ivanhoe Primary School, we are committed to five core values:
🟢Respect
🔵Resilience
🟣Confidence
🟡Persistence
🟠Independence
Our shared commitment to these values creates a powerful foundation for a successful, respectful and inclusive school community. By working together as a team; school staff, students, and families, we can ensure that our students not only excel academically but also grow into well-rounded, compassionate, responsible, and resilient individuals.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
