Leadership at BBPS

Well done to our grade 6 leaders for another round of successful action projects.
Visual Arts Captains: We had the Greenies of grade 3-4 decorating old gumboots so that we can plant succulents in them next term to go in the kitchen garden. All the students listened and seemed really interested, they enjoyed painting and being creative. It was a successful session.
Community Captains: We loved working with the St Peter’s Kindergarten kids, we changed the sports each week so it didn't get repetitive and they liked them all. One problem we had to fix was that we lost the sheet of pre-organised groups, luckily one of us had taken a photo and uploaded it to our leadership folder. We 0took different leaders with us each week.
Cultural Captains: We ran indigenous games for the Junior School, the kids had so much fun. We were well organised and worked well as a team to divide up responsibilities. The four games we did were brambahl (skipping); Barambah gimbe (throwing and catching); nandrra-rna (hitting balls out of your opponents circle, we used hoola hoops); edor (three edors are it, and everyone has to run to a designated spot without being tagged).
Gordon House Captains: We organised our first ever school house colours day. It was a bit nerve wracking at first because we weren't sure if everybody was going to do it, but everyone got into it. There were some great costumes and there was lots of fruit and vegetables in everyone's lunch boxes. 5W were given the award because they all dressed up and they had so much fruit and vegetables in their lunch boxes. Even better, they had chosen fruit and vegetables that reflected their actual house colours. It was a great day to celebrate healthy eating. Check out BBPS Life for pics.
School Captains: We ran a Grade 5 leadership induction programme. In our first session we talked about what makes a good leader and had the grade 5 students complete a preference sheet about roles that they might like to try and learn more about. We randomly selected people into the roles and in the second session they got to shadow our current leaders as a chance to try the role. Everyone enjoyed the opportunity and it was successful action project. We are really good at dividing up jobs and helping each other to make sure things on our To Do List get completed. We trust each other to do our part.
Academic captains: We have completed the first round of the spelling bee. It was great to see so many children have a go. Using whiteboards in the Junior School was a good idea as it encouraged everybody to participate without being put on the spot and feeling too nervous. 8 students from each grade are through to the finals, which will take place next term. Our next job is to come up with a list of words for the finals round.
Dendy House Captains – a reflection from grade 2 participants: We loved grade sport. The grade 6s organised lots of fun games for us. Lacey was really good at teaching us netball, I kept forgetting to keep my foot still. Liam made the hurdle relays lots of fun. And we loved racing Axel around the track, no one could beat him, but I almost did!
