Message from Bev and Kim

What an action-packed Term 2!
We extend our thanks to all our families for your continued support, partnership and trust. Your encouragement makes a world of difference in helping every child grow and thrive, and we are truly grateful for the strong home-school connections we share at BBPS. It really does take a village!
We have loved having so many now-secondary school former BBPS students visit us recently and spend time as volunteers in our classrooms. Their reflections about how special BBPS is, and their growing awareness of their connection and sense of belonging during their time with us speaks mountains to who we are.
It has been a huge term of learning, many thanks to our incredible teaching and education support team. From classroom learning to excursions, sports events, arts programs and more – our staff continue to go above and beyond to create meaningful learning experiences for every student. Their dedication and tireless work behind the scenes does not go unnoticed.
This term has also seen our staff shine beyond the classroom, we are proud to be able to represent BBPS in the wider education community:
- Kylie White was selected and has now completed her first semester in the Teacher Excellence Program, a year-long professional commitment through the VCAA, with a focus on explicit teaching and instructional practice.
- Bev presented her connections to the science of learning based on her participation in the New York Educational Tour last holidays at the Australian Council for Educational Leaders AGM.
- Bev and Kim presented at the statewide Principal Conference, sharing their experiences within the co-principal leadership model to schools across Victoria.
- Kim was invited to speak at both Hunt Kindergarten and The Learning Sanctuary on the topic of school readiness, strengthening our local early years connections.
- Wendy Pierce is currently in South Africa, presenting at the World Conference for Transformative Education. Our FUNctioning Skills segments in the wellbeing section of our newsletter this term are a little insight into Wendy’s area of expertise and passion.
- Sally Wickes was selected as a Mentor in the Department’s Music In Schools Program, and has been supporting and mentoring colleagues across our system, sharing her expertise.
We’re also thrilled to celebrate student success: Congratulations to all our students who received a merit award this term.
Well done to Vivi in Year 5 who placed 1st at the Regional Cross Country – what an incredible achievement! We’ll be cheering her on as she competes at the State Finals early next term.
Semester 1 Reports are now live and accessible via Compass. These reports offer a valuable snapshot of student learning growth and achievement over the semester. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s progress further, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your classroom teacher early next term.
School Council Report – June
- Education Policy:
Visitor and Volunteer policies have been updated – please make sure the school has your latest up to date WWCC details.
Sponsorship Policy has been updated to reflect new Departmental checklists and communication proformas. A big shout out to our Dreamers organising team, who have been working hard behind the scenes to confirm sponsors for this year’s events. Thank you to our families who have generously committed.
Child Safety Induction Pack – this is a new addition, a one page summary of all the relevant Child Safety school policies that inform the role of volunteers at BBPS. The referenced policies are shared with our Parent Association as part of the annual induction.
All policies reviewed above can be accessed via our website school-accountability-policies
- Finance:
Thank you to all our families who have paid their school fees this year – current parent payment contribution collection rates are 84% for curriculum (which contributes to our purchasing of classroom resources, commitment to The Resilience Project and teacher professional learning); and 64% for non-curriculum (including the building fund, school ground maintenance, first aid)
- Marketing and Publicity:
Well done to SC member, Steph Genge, who has been integral in connecting our school with the State Minister for Education, Ben Carrol, and the Department team in request of reviewing our school zone to support enrolment processes.
- Buildings and Grounds:
General maintenance completed this month has included external painting on Exon side of the main building, pinboards refurbished in classrooms to improve acoustics, removal of old air conditioning units, school facility tour with James Newbury to update on current school facility maintenance.
- Grade 6 Camp to Canberra has been approved, and families have already received the first pieces of communication.
Wishing all our students, families and staff a well-earned break. We look forward to seeing everyone back for an exciting start to Term 3. School resumes on Monday, July 21.
