Year 10 Environmental Science Excursion

On the 30th of April, the Year 10 Environmental Science class was invited to attend an industry immersion day at Holmesglen Institute.

The day consisted of walking around the campus learning about renewable energy sources and future pathways within these industries. The day started off with the class learning how to install solar panels, with a hands on experience installing them onto an example roof. The class was very interested and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of drilling and locking the solar panels onto the frame. The next activity was about Wiring, a job typically done by electricians. Our job was to understand the process of how a light is connected to the battery and we were able to complete another hands on activity, this was done by experimenting with wires, trying to turn lights on! The final activity was about welding, the class was extremely excited for this particular activity as we were able to play a virtual reality game, that was made around welding. After completing the game the machine gave you back a score, with the highest being 80 from our class. We were then able to build our very own phone stand out of metal! We were able to use all the tools available to us, with most of us experiencing using a press brake, which is a machine that bends metal. Finally, the day finished off with a lecture, with a special guest panel. We were able to ask questions and gain a further understanding of the renewable energy sector from the lecture.

We had an amazing time!
