Highlighting 7E

7E has settled into Term 2 at BSC like they’ve been here for years rather than weeks. They have formed strong friendships within the class and have a genuine like for each other. This has cultivated a fun and comfortable learning environment where everyone is able to take risks, share their ideas and know they’ll be granted the respect and given opportunity to learn and grow.

In Maths so far this year, we have covered measurement and geometry, problem solving, and taken on the challenge of NAPLAN in the second half of Term 1. We are currently working on our food trucks and utilising our skills in measurement and financial mathematics to design and create a profitable business plan.

7E has been an absolute delight to teach for English. The creativity of this bunch has never ceased to amaze me. The two text types that we have focused on this year so far were narratives and persuasives, and this term we have been looking at reading responses and book clubs.

Students thrived with narratives, looking at character development, plot twists, narrative arcs and strong conclusions. No-one can support an argument quite like a 7E student, as is very evident through their persuasive writing units. We had some passionate and well structured discussions in class, and the conclusive decision was made that pineapple does NOT belong on a pizza.

Alongside our text types, 7E have become fluent in developing IT skills, using alternative programs, such as Canva, and the ever-loved Typing Club. But the silence that fills the classroom when it is book club reading time, and the insightful discussions following the reading time shows that 7E are finding the enjoyment in texts and escaping into pages for an increasing amount of time.

TEXTILES

7E totally engrossed in mastering that elusive sewing machine, ready to begin their aprons.

HUMANITIES

In Humanities, 7E is beginning a unit of work on Ancient Egypt. This term, they have enjoyed creating overlay maps, researching whether stereotypical Ancient Egyptian knowledge is myth or fact and studying the lives of the Pharaohs. In coming weeks they will study the geography of Egypt and how this affected life and look at their strange burial rituals – they will even complete a practical activity mummifying a tomato!!

SCIENCE

Throughout the beginning of Term 2 Science, 7E have been investigating their unit of work 'Classification'. Students investigated different classification models and tools including Taxonomy and Dichotomous Keys. They have recently completed their CAT for this unit of work demonstrating their understanding and creating a Dichotomous Key with 12 chosen animals. The next topic 7E will explore is Earth and Space.
