Spelling
This fortnight's spelling focus is:
The students are also exploring suffixes when reading, writing and spelling. This fortnight we will be looking specifically at the suffixes '-ness' as in sadness and '-able' as in adorable.
Writing
Over the next two weeks, our students will continue their exploration of narrative comprehension and cultural understanding in their writing lessons. They will learn to identify the characters in a text, describe key events with precision, and enhance their storytelling skills through the innovative technique of freeze frames. Additionally, students will delve into the rich tapestry of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories, gaining insights into how animals are represented in these narratives and exploring the use of symbols as a powerful means of communication. Through engaging activities with story stones and symbols, students will develop the ability to accurately sequence the events of Dreaming stories, fostering a deeper appreciation for indigenous cultures and storytelling traditions. This holistic approach to literacy education aims to not only enhance students' writing skills but also nurture their cultural awareness and empathy.
Here are some of the Dreaming stories we have explored this term.
Math
Over the next two weeks, students will be expanding on their addition and subtraction strategies. All students will be explicitly taught a range of strategies to add to their mathematical toolkit. Before each lesson, students will practice their skills through collaborative games which are fun and easy to play.
In addition to Mathletics, we encourage students to practise these games at home to consolidate their understanding of addition & subtraction.
