Year One/Two News

Readiness for Learning

Welcome back to Term Two! We hope everyone had a relaxing holiday break. The Year 1/2 students have made a great start back this term.

In reading, students have been learning about non-fiction texts. They have been exploring the features of non-fiction texts and how they are different to fiction texts. It is fantastic to see so many students bringing their reader diaries to school each day. Please make sure that these are filled out each time a book is read at home. It is wonderful to see some students build independence by completing their reader diary themselves. We understand that families are extremely busy and appreciate your support.

In writing, we have started to explore information reports. Students are enjoying the Writer's Workshop, where they are practising their writing skills during independent writing and working on writing information reports in writing focus groups. In maths this term we have been learning about subtraction and how it relates to addition. Next students will be learning about money.

Each morning, students in the Millie building engage in a range of activities designed to build fine motor skills and provide students with the opportunity to build social connections and interaction. During our Readiness for Learning time, students can play with Lego, playdough or beads as well as colouring, drawing or reading and spending time communicating with friends. It is a great way to start the day and make sure students are ready to begin their learning when the bell goes.
