Learning About ANZAC Day
ANZAC Day is an extremely significant day for Australians, who all recognise the importance of commemorating soldiers and, at the same time, promoting peace. To maintain the ANZAC spirit we engaged our students in learning through age-appropriate texts such as picture books, posters and poems. We learned the lyrics to the song 'I was only nineteen' written by John Schumann. We unpacked what each verse meant and learned some interesting things along the way. Students performed this song at our ANZAC Day Service today with pride, courage and respect.
Our students have been immersed in ANZAC stories of brave men and women in the war and the importance of perseverance and mateship during hard times. Students created poetry and letters to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of ANZAC as well as participated in enriching discussions.
