Principal's Report

Welcome to Term 2. We have had a great week getting back into flow of learning, playing and connecting with teachers and peers.

There are a number of events coming up – Art Show, Mother’s day/mother figure open morning, foundation 2024 school tours and information session and more. So please keep marking the dates on your calendars at home.

On Monday 6th May (curriculum day – pupil free) teachers will be focusing on their learning and gaining deeper understanding of ‘structured literacy’ and how implementation looks in the classroom through their planning and assessment. I want to acknowledge our Literacy Action Team (Georgia Thomas, Georgie Hall, Michaela Allender, Mary Lee, Ali Smith and Jeremy Gillies) led by Jodie Abbott and Ev Baulch our Curriculum Learning Leader who are supporting the learning and implementation of change across our whole school with such great success. We are already seeing such great gains because of this work and commend all our teachers for embracing this opportunity for learning and engaging our students in the structured literacy approach during literacy learning each day. We are looking forward to sharing more about this with you all in Term 3 at our parent information session, specifically on structured literacy and how we assess our students.

Attitudes to School Survey (DET student feedback survey)

Each year students in grade 4, 5 and 6 complete the Attitudes to school survey across the state. After evaluating last year’s WEPS data we identified the need to focus on;

  • Student Voice
  • Stimulated Learning
  • Differentiated Learning Challenge
  • Learner Confidence

All teachers (foundation to year 6) have been working on an action plan to grow student awareness of what is already in place as well as identified what they can improve as age appropriate for each learning community.

Through their teaching, teachers will focus on;

  • encouraging and respecting the view of all children
  • enhancing stimulated learning environments catering for each child’s interests, abilities and needs
  • continuing to recognise each child is unique and optimizing student learning outcomes through a tailored approach

PIVOT surveys (student voice)

All students – foundation to year 6, will be participating in the PIVOT survey at the start of term 2 and mid Term 3.

The student surveys are intended to provide teachers with constructive and actionable research-based feedback on their teaching, connection with students and the way they engage with them. Teachers will use this feedback to affirm what is working well and areas for improvement. This models to students that we all have areas of strength and areas to improve upon.

Additionally, the surveys provide an opportunity to further enhance teaching practice, directly linking to standards within the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

Student survey responses are anonymous and class results are confidential and only accessible to the class teacher. We receive a summary of data for year levels and the whole school for further analysis and actionable guidance to support our school improvement journey.

Foundation 2025

We are preparing for Foundation 2024 school tours and information session for parents beginning the week of the 29th April. Please promote this to friends and family members you know who have a little starting school in 2025.
