Cross Country

On Thursday 18th April HPSC students participated in Cross Country. The Sport and Recreation VET classes led the event facilitated by Mr Jessop and Mr Hare. The students involved demonstrated our values and ran a successful whole school event. It was a fantastic day, and participants had a great time. Students who have progressed through to the finals will represent HPSC later this term, competing against other schools in the area.

Athletics Day

The annual Athletics Day at HPSC was a thrilling display of sportsmanship, skill, and camaraderie. The weather was warm, and you could smell the BBQ in the wind!

The student participated in a range of track and field events; it was Mabo that took home the winning position by only 15 points! Well done to Mabo!!

Staff Vs Students Event

To conclude our amazing athletics day, we had our staff vs student 100m race!

The staff and students participating had two options – 100m sprint or 100m fast walk.

Starting off, we had the 100m sprint – this heat had almost 30 participants joining, with all of them running at the same time. It was hectic to say the least!

As the buzzer went off indicating the race has started, everyone, and I mean everyone, ran their hardest to reach the end. The crowd went wild, shouts and chants being heard from the stands (obviously for the students). The contestants were tripping and falling and being blocked by others to become first – they were ruthless. And with so many people sprinting at the same time it was hard to see who was ahead, but nearing the end, it was clear who had won (bad news incoming).

With seconds counting down the student was ahead of the game, it was prominent that he was to be placed as victorious, his speed was no match for many meters behind him. But with a mere second left, teacher burnt out all his energy to surpass the student, ultimately winning the staff vs student 100m sprint.

But even with staff winning the 100m sprint, students knew they had a chance to make a comeback and even the playing field. With the indication that staff had won the first round everyone participating in the 10m speedwalk become pumped and ready to finish this events battle. With game faces on, all contestants got ready in position, and as the buzzer went off to start the race, each and every individual sped their hardest (in walking) to reach the end.

At first, it was even play, everyone at the same pace, but halfway through, it was obvious who was to come victorious. The students poked right ahead of the staff, their strides strong and fast, and seamlessly they won the 100m fast walk (even if we had some people that ran and become disqualified).

Now, the staff and students were tied 1-1 for athletics, but overall, the staff are winning 3-1. With us almost being halfway through the year, will students be able to change the game and come out as winners? Or will the staff continue to smash the students in the events and come out on top?

Who knows, but with many domain weeks and challenges ahead, we root for our year 12s to win!!!!
