WOW! THE WEATHER. WE CAN DO IT!

Dear parents and carers,

We are pleased to see our 'WOW!' program is doing well since we started. This is the 'Walk or Wheel Once a Week’ program with the City of Darebin. The program encourages students to walk, scoot or bike to school every Friday. 

As we approach the winter season, we understand that the weather can be challenging, but we have some encouraging tips to help make it easier for families to participate:

• Dress appropriately: Wear warm, waterproof clothing, including hats, gloves, and scarves, to stay warm and dry.
• Umbrellas and raincoats if it's a rainy day.
• Buddy up: Encourage your child to walk or cycle with a friend or a group of friends. This will make it more enjoyable and safer.
• Stay visible: Bright or light-coloured clothing helps you stay visible. Reflective clothing or accessories are also helpful, especially in the colder mornings.

We encourage families to participate in the 'WOW' program and make it a regular part of their weekly routine. Together, we can promote healthy habits and reduce traffic congestion around the school.

           LIONS CLUBS HEARING AND VISION TESTS

                     FOR CHILDREN AGED  3.5 TO 6 YEARS OF AGE

Dear Parents,

Like many other Lions Clubs across Victoria, Northcote Lions Club is offering pre-schoolers and prep children (3.5 – 6 years) hearing screening and Vision screening tests as part of its community service program.

Students under supervision from Melbourne University’s Audiology and Optometry Departments will carry out the play-based testing, and parents will be informed immediately and referred to their GP if hearing or Vision abnormalities are detected.

Early detection of hearing and vision loss is critical for the development of normal speech and language skills. Statistics indicate that around 3% of children tested are found to have difficulties.

These tests are FREE OF CHARGE, and will be held between 9.00 am and 4 pm on

                           Saturday 15th August 2026 

             at Wales Street Primary School, Thornbury

Entry and parking are from Clyde Street.

Testing can take up to 40 minutes, and One parent or guardian must be present with each child.
