Icarus 

Congratulations to all of our students for their fantastic participation and effort during the swimming program! Throughout the program, students have shown great enthusiasm, resilience and a willingness to challenge themselves as they developed their swimming skills and water confidence.

Reading 

In Reading, students have been developing their comprehension skills by learning to ask and answer questions before, during and after reading to deepen their understanding of texts. They have been exploring how verbs, adjectives and other vocabulary choices help authors create meaning and engage the reader. Students have also been identifying key ideas, making predictions, drawing inferences and supporting their thinking with evidence from the text. These skills are helping students become thoughtful, confident readers who can better understand and respond to a range of fiction and non-fiction texts.

Writing 

In Writing, students have been developing their narrative writing skills by creating engaging and imaginative stories. They have been learning how to plan their ideas, write interesting beginnings that capture the reader's attention, and include well-developed characters, settings, problems and solutions. Students have also been focusing on using descriptive language, dialogue and varied sentence structures to make their writing more exciting and enjoyable to read. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and confidence grow as they share their stories with others.

Maths 

In Mathematics, students have been strengthening their understanding of addition and subtraction by using a range of mental and written strategies to solve increasingly complex problems. They have been exploring fact families to recognise the relationship between addition and subtraction, helping to build fluency and confidence with number facts. Students have also been developing their skills in telling the time on both analogue and digital clocks, including reading times to the nearest minute. In Measurement, students have been learning to estimate, measure and compare the mass of everyday objects using grams and kilograms. It has been wonderful to see students applying these mathematical skills with growing confidence in a variety of real-world contexts.

Social and Emotional Learning

In Social and Emotional Learning, students have been developing their understanding of emotions, stress levels and positive relationships. They have been learning to recognise and name different emotions, identify how their feelings can impact their thoughts and actions, and explore strategies to manage stress and regulate their emotions. Students have also been building their skills in communication, empathy and understanding the perspectives of others to help strengthen their relationships with peers. It has been wonderful to see students reflect on their own wellbeing, support one another and develop the skills needed to create a caring and respectful classroom community. 

Inquiry 

In Inquiry, students have been investigating the importance of laws and rules and how they help to keep our communities safe, fair and organised. As part of this learning, we were fortunate to welcome Mayor Carly Moore for a special incursion. Students enjoyed hearing about the role of local government, how decisions are made within the community, and the responsibilities of a mayor. They asked thoughtful questions and gained a deeper understanding of how citizens can contribute positively to their local community. We thank Mayor Moore for taking the time to share her knowledge and inspire our students.

We also had a Police visit with Sergeant Gavin and Office Penny from Sunbury Police department. They discussed their role in the community and that they enforce Laws, not rules. They identified rules in the community that students need to follow, along with adults with a large part of their presentation addressing road safety. 

Did you know, if you are under the age of 16 it is illegal for you to ride an e scooter, you are breaking the law Sergeant Gavin said. This can result in the police taking your e scooter away.
