Ulysses 

Welcome to The Ulysses Community Newsletter. This is the first newsletter of the term, and to kick things off, we have seen great adaptation from the students. We have now arrived almost at the middle of term 3 and are amazed at the academic excellence our students have shown. We have organised a couple of events this term, including 100 days of prep and Book Week. Once again, we aspire to a great rest of the term for our students and hope they gain an abundance of knowledge through this term.

Reading

In Reading, we have explored a range of mentor texts while focusing on key comprehension skills such as making connections, asking questions using clues from the text, and identifying language features to enhance our understanding. It has been wonderful to see the substantial progress the students have made in all these areas. We have many more engaging mentor texts planned for the rest of the term to continue building these skills.

Writing

In writing, we began the term by focusing on opinion writing, where students worked on persuading their audience. They were given a variety of topics to share their opinion on and were encouraged to provide three reasons to support their ideas. It has been fantastic to see students working hard in creating their persuasive texts. More recently, we have moved into narrative writing, and the students are showing good interest in writing their own stories using their imagination and creativity.

Maths

In Maths, we have started the term focusing on place value. Students have been working on building their understanding of the value of digits in numbers, working with ones, tens, hundreds and beyond. They have been using hands-on activities and problem-solving tasks to strengthen their number sense and confidence. In the coming weeks, we will continue this topic along with duration of events in days, weeks, months and years.

SEL

We are continuously learning through the Resilience Project and RRRR, focusing on building positive relationships and social skills. Students have been practising relaxation techniques, learning how to manage and resolve conflicts in a positive way, and developing strategies to make new friends.

Inquiry

Inquiry

In Inquiry, we are learning about the past and present. We have explored the change in technology over time through different immersion centres. The students have shown a great interest in the topic as they are able to recognise the difference in technology as time passes. After technology, we are going to explore the changes in different places over time through different activities.

Commonwealth Dress Up Day

In Week 3, celebrated Commonwealth Dress Up Day to mark Australia’s success in reaching the netball semi-final. Students and teachers dressed up to join in the celebration and show their support for the Australian team.

Our Assistant Principal, Sara- Kate, visited some classrooms with a special netball signed by the Australian players. The students were so excited to see the signed ball and enjoyed hearing Sara-Kate talk about Australia’s outstanding achievements in the Commonwealth Games. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our country and share in the excitement together.

  Utilise a school communication app to send out announcements, reminders, and important dates. This ensures parents receive timely information and can easily access it on their mobile devices. 

• Reading Time: Encourage your child/children to read for a set amount of time each day. 
• Open Communication: Please feel free to reach out to your child’s mentor teacher if you have any questions or concerns. We are here to support you and your child.
