Friday 26 June - Years 5 & 6
Last Sunday, our Year 6 students celebrated a joyful milestone as they received the Sacrament of Confirmation, with Bishop Geoffrey Jarrett presiding over the Mass alongside Our Parish Priest Father Julian and assisting Priest Father Nonnie. It was a proud and faith‑filled occasion for our school community as we gathered to support the candidates and pray for them as they continue to grow in the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer for Our Confirmation Candidates
Loving God, We thank you for the young people who were confirmed last Sunday. Fill them with your Spirit of wisdom, courage, and joy. Guide them as they continue to grow in faith, and help them use their gifts to bring kindness and hope to others. May they always know your love and walk confidently in your light.
Amen.
On Thursday we are hosting our Vinnies Winter Appeal and Inaugural Winter Sleepout for Stage 3 students. Many initiatives will be happening on Thursday across the school. Please remind students to donate goods and bring a few gold coins on Thursday for Mufti Day and Cake Stalls.
Mufti Day - Winter Woolies Thursday. Students can wear PJs, tracksuits, scarves, beanies or oodies.
Cake Stall ran by our Year 6 Pope Francis students $1 a cake or slice.
Guest Speaker Chris Nolan from Sydney Archdiocese Vinnies presentation in the hall for students.
Winter Sleepout 6-8pm. Stage 3 STUDENTS ONLY.
NOTE: Donations accepted up until Thursday.
All these experiences aim to shed light on homelessness and poverty in our local area and city. We hope to bring awareness to the challenges faced by those who are less fortunate and inspire our students to respond with compassion, generosity and empathy. As a Mercy school community, we are called to put our faith into action through service to others.
Thank you for your support of this important initiative as together we strive to make a difference in the lives of those most in need.

Throughout June, we celebrate the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a special reminder of Jesus' great love for all people. The Sacred Heart symbolises His compassion, kindness, mercy, and care for others. As a school community, we are encouraged to follow Jesus' example by showing love, forgiveness, and generosity in our words and actions each day. May this month inspire us to open our hearts to God and to care for one another with kindness and respect.

The Religious Education K-10 syllabus is organised into five strands, which remain central to how student learning is reported. Each strand covers syllabus outcomes specific to the student’s year of learning. Students are reported on the strands that have been explicitly taught during the reporting period. At each reporting period teachers consider the learning covered to date and assign the grade that best reflects the standards students have demonstrated so far.
Awarding Grades - The Common Grade Scale
Teachers use the NESA Common Grade Scale when evaluating student achievement in Religious Education. This scale helps teachers describe your child’s progress clearly by showing how well they are meeting the expected learning outcomes for their grade.
Teachers make these judgments by looking at a range of learning and assessment activities across the term. Teachers are encouraged to take a balanced, professional view of your child’s overall progress when determining report grades.
The Reporting Strands Explained
Below, you’ll see the Religious Education syllabus strands which make up the reporting areas for the year kindergarten to year 6 student reports. The content is taught across years K-10 strands.

As we come to the end of a busy and rewarding term, we wish all our families a restful and joyful winter break. May this time provide opportunities to slow down, reconnect with loved ones and enjoy moments of peace together.
Yours in Faith,

Mrs Erin Wing | Religious Education Coordinator
