From the Principal

Dear families,
Get ready, this is one jam-packed newsletter edition! As we approach the end of another busy and successful term, it is hard to believe how quickly the time has flown.
One of the highlights of this term has been welcoming many prospective families to OPS through our school tours. It is always a privilege to share our vision and commitment to high-quality teaching and learning, before walking through the school and seeing our students and staff bring this vision to life each day.
The feedback we receive from families only further reinforces what a special, welcoming and connected community OPS is.
To further support transition and enrolment at OPS, we are excited to announce the commencement of our Community Storytime program next term in our library. Aimed at kindergarten families, it will be a wonderful opportunity for local families to visit our school, enjoy a story and participate in a fun activity together.
Congratulations Ros!
Our wonderful crossing supervisor, Ros, has been nominated for the School Crossing Supervisor of the Year Awards. Ros was incredibly delighted and touched to learn that she had been nominated by members of our OPS community. This recognition is a wonderful reflection of the care and dedication she brings to her role each and every day.
We are very proud of Ros and wish her all the very best at the awards ceremony on 7th July.
Curriculum / Student-Free Day
Our recent Curriculum and Student-Free Day was a highly productive and valuable day for all staff. Teachers had the opportunity to review student learning data, reflect on student progress and prepare for Parent/Teacher Interviews.
Last week our leadership and team leaders also participated in professional learning through the Victorian Lesson Plans Project. This was an incredible opportunity to further unpack our curriculum sequences, strengthen our understanding of high-quality lesson design and continue refining our whole-school planning processes. This work will greatly support our upcoming planning days and our ongoing commitment to delivering evidence-informed teaching and learning.
Socceroos Watch Party – Friday 26 June
On the last day of term, Friday 26 June, the Socceroos will play their final group stage match of the FIFA World Cup against Paraguay. The match will run from 12:00 pm until approximately 2:00 pm, and we will be opening the Hall for students who would like to come together and cheer on our Aussie team.
We encourage all students, whether attending the Watch Party or not, to wear their green and gold to show their support for the Socceroos.
If you would like your child to attend the Watch Party, please provide consent via Compass by Monday 22 June. This will assist us with planning staffing and supervision. If numbers are high, we will create separate viewing spaces for Foundation–Year 2 and Years 3–6 students.
Students who do not have consent to attend the Watch Party will participate in regular classroom learning programs.
Unexplained Absences
We currently have more than 300 student absences recorded in Compass that have not yet been explained.
We kindly ask all families to log in to Compass and review their child’s attendance record. If you notice any unexplained absences, please add the appropriate reason so that these records can be updated.
If you are unable to access Compass or are having difficulty updating an absence, please contact the school office by email at ormond.ps@education.vic.gov.au and provide the reason for the absence. Our staff will be happy to update the record on your behalf.
Thank you for your assistance in helping us maintain accurate attendance records.

I head off on leave tomorrow and Aaron will be Acting Principal in my absence. I hope everyone has a wonderful final week of term and a safe and restful holiday break. Thank you again for your ongoing support and commitment to our amazing school community.
Please continue reading for many more updates and important information.
With thanks,
