Religious Education

Term 2 has been a rich and faith-filled time in Religious Education, as we have continued to nurture the spiritual growth of our students and strengthen the connection between our school and parish community. Throughout the term, our learning has centred on the Triune God strand, with students developing a deeper understanding of the Holy Trinity—God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit—and the importance of this relationship at the heart of our Catholic faith.
A key focus this term has been our ongoing partnership with the parish, particularly through the celebration and preparation for the Sacrament of First Communion. We are grateful to our dedicated staff who have supported students and families throughout this important stage of their sacramental journey. This collaboration between home, school and parish reflects the heart of Catholic education, where faith is lived and celebrated together. Congratulations to Taylor, Estelle, Patrick, Noah, Elijah, Ashton, Alexia, Illyanna, Mia, Lily, Alex, Lyla, Matthew, Kingston, Isla, Abygale, Sadie, Eva and Sebastian who received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion.
Our school Masses this term have been wonderfully supported, with strong attendance from parents and parishioners. We extend our sincere gratitude to all who have joined us in prayer and celebration. Your presence enriches our liturgies and strengthens the sense of belonging and shared faith within our community. After one particular Mass, we had a lovely lady telephone from Queensland. She watches the live streams each week and rang to congratulate our children on their reading of parts of the Mass. This a testimony to way our teachers prepare students so thoroughly for these Liturgigical celebrations.
We also celebrated Catholic Education Week, which was a joyful and meaningful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the gift of Catholic schooling. Throughout the week, students engaged in activities that highlighted our shared mission of faith, learning and service. Reflecting this year’s theme, we are reminded of Bishop Greg Bennet’s message that every Catholic school is called to be a “home of peace,” where all are welcomed, valued and nurtured in faith, hope and love.
To mark the beginning of Catholic Education Week, our Fire Carriers were commissioned, highlighting the importance of this role within our community and in response to this message of peace. Our students were commissioned by student leaders from St Peter’s, strengthening our connection with our parish and the wider Catholic school community. As Fire Carriers, they are called to keep the “fire of faith” burning brightly—leading through compassion, service and example. This role is especially significant in our inclusive community, as it also promotes the recognition, celebration and learning of First Nations peoples, honouring their culture, spirituality and deep connection to the land. Three staff members were also recognised for more that 25 years of service to Catholic Education. Congratulations to Mrs Scrivener, Mrs Lindsay and Mrs Yandell on thier committment to Catholic Education.
A special highlight this term was our celebration of Sr Faustina’s Golden Jubilee. Students shared heartfelt messages of gratitude and honoured this milestone through song and dance, celebrating her dedication and service with great joy and reverence.
Congratulations to our School community as we raised $560 as one part of our St Vincent De Paul winter appeal. Our Mini Vinnies have taken this money to purchase resources to further support this important work of SVDP. We thank our families for their continued support in faith and learning, and we look forward to continuing this journey together in hope, prayer and community.
Looking ahead to Term 3, our Religious Education focus will be on the Sacramental Church, with particular attention to the Sacrament of Confirmation. Preparation has already begun, and Yr 6 students will be learning about this important sacrament both at home and at school. As they deepen their understanding of the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit, our scripture focus reflects this:
- Foundation – Year 2: The Baptism of Jesus (Matthew 3:13–17), exploring belonging and initiation into God’s family. Holy Spirit represented at water and a dove.
- Years 3 – 6: The Coming of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1–4), highlighting the presence of the Holy Spirit and guiding students as they prepare for Confirmation. Holy Spirit represented as fire and wind.
Wishing you all a very safe term 2 break, take care,
Bec Kollaris
Acting Religious Education Leader
