 WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING THIS TERM!

Term 2 Highlights

Since our last newsletter, students have continued to show enthusiasm, creativity, and commitment to learning across all year levels.

Here are just a few highlights from recent weeks.

🏀 Training Smarter: Injury Prevention & Performance Session

The Year 10 EIS Basketball students recently had the fantastic opportunity to work with Sean McDaid, Kerry Kay, Emily Gerdes, and Jackson Dines from Exercise Thought, located on Main Street, Lilydale.

Students were taken through a new warm-up and cool-down routine, with a strong focus on injury prevention, recovery, and preparing their bodies correctly for training and competition. It was a highly engaging and educational session, with students learning valuable techniques and strategies they can continue to use throughout their sporting journeys.

We are extremely grateful to the team from Exercise Thought for giving up their time and providing such a fantastic experience for our students. Their knowledge, energy, and professionalism made the session incredibly worthwhile, and the students gained so much from the experience.

 🟠 The Smashed Project

On 13 May, our Year 9 students participated in the live interactive theatre performance SMASHED, exploring the impact of underage drinking and the importance of positive decision-making.

Through engaging with relatable characters, students reflected on real-life situations and developed strategies to resist peer pressure and make safe choices!

The performance was delivered by We Are Gibber and encouraged students to consider the consequences of alcohol use in a meaningful and interactive way.

The results were fantastic, with students producing incredibly creative and professional-looking designs. From themed cupcakes to intricate piping and colour combinations, it was wonderful to see their personalities and skills shine through in their work.

Ms Legg was extremely proud of the way the class approached this task. They demonstrated persistence, creativity, teamwork, and a willingness to challenge themselves in the kitchen.

🌈 Ever wondered how fireworks get their colours?

Year 10 Science students used flame tests to observe how different metal ions produce unique flame colours, as excited electrons release energy in the form of light.

🌟 Thrive Year Level Assemblies

During Week 6 of this term, Thrive Year Level Assemblies were held across the school. These assemblies were led by our Year Level Captains, who all did a marvellous job confidently speaking in front of their peers  and sharing important messages with their year levels.

The assemblies provided an opportunity for students to come together, celebrate what has been happening across the term, recognise achievements, and reflect on the Thrive values that contribute to a positive school culture.

Below are a few photos from the Year 9 and Year 10 assemblies, which were held in the Theatre.

At lunchtime on 26 May, our Duke of Edinburgh students held a successful fundraising event featuring three food stalls and a silent auction.

The students dedicated a great deal of time and effort to planning, organising, and running the event. Their hard work paid off, with an impressive total of $682.84 raised.

All funds have been donated to Mount Evelyn Community Care, helping the organisation purchase additional food supplies to support members of our local community in need.

💛 🍪 The Compassionate Kitchen: Finishing on a Sweet Note

The Compassionate Kitchen celebrated the final two weeks of the course by making Compassionate Cookies for themselves. These delicious cookies were buttery and crisp on the outside, with a soft center, and loaded with colourful mini M&M’s. 🍪

Throughout the year, students have generously prepared food for a variety of community events around the school. This time, however, it was their turn to enjoy a well-deserved reward for all their hard work and dedication.

In their final week, students baked brownies and lemon slice for the upcoming Significant Person Event in the PAC. This special event celebrates the achievements of the Year 8 students in their Art and English projects. The treats will be enjoyed by both guests and participating students. 🍫🍋

A heartfelt thank you to all the students, and especially Paula, Karen and Francis, for making The Compassionate Kitchen such a positive and rewarding community experience!

Ms Hovanjec's Year 9 Textiles students have been developing their sewing and production skills through the creation of a pyjama product range inspired by the Peter Alexander brand. As part of their assessment task, students designed and constructed their own pyjama pants, applying a range of textile techniques while following commercial patterns.

Students also created coordinating accessories, including eye masks, scrunchies, cleansing facial pads, drawstring bags, pet bandanas and pin cushions. ✨

Congratulations to the Year 9 students on their amazing creativity, attention to detail and the high quality of their finished products.
