Industry Taster Program

Recently, our Year 9 students participated in the Work Experience Industry Taster Program, a unique opportunity available to St Brigid's College students, now in its third year.

Over three days, students experienced a variety of workplaces and explored a range of industries. This valuable program helps students make informed pathway choices while gaining a deeper understanding of the world of work and employment.

This program is made possible due to the wonderful support of the following local businesses and organisations:

Wimmera Southern Mallee LLEN, Federation University, YMCA, Australian Grains Innovation Centre, GWM, Cabinets & Stone, Emerge Horsham Kindergarten, Headspace, Wimmera Library, KFC, Morrow Motors, Salvation Army, Up Tempo, Vinnies, Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly, Ss Michael & John's Primary School, Ace Radio, Promotional Products and Uniforms, Middy's and the Wimmera Catchment Authority.

Your willingness to be involved is greatly appreciated by our College, families and Year 9 students!

Hands On Learning Cafe

We're excited to share that our Hands on Learning (HoL) Cafe program has begun this term!

Hands on Learning Cafe is an innovative in-school program that supports increased attendance and student achievement by building personal and social skills and supporting the different ways young people learn.

The HoL methodology was developed by Russell Kerr at Frankston High School in 1999 based on the principle of engaging students with authentic, readily achievable tasks that focus on 'doing' and building self-belief.

As part of HoL Cafe, students can obtain recognised qualifications by doing Barista and Safe Food Handling courses, and develop employability skills such as collaboration, organisation, problem solving and communication. Skills such as budgeting, marketing, and fundraising are also core elements. Students spend one full day each week in the HoL Cafe, working together on creative and meaningful projects, building strong relationships along the way.

The first six students in the program have jumped right in and have been cooking and serving toasties, fruit cups, muffins and choc chip cookies for our students and staff! Watch this space for updates on what's happening in the HoL Cafe!
