Back to NHS

Northcote High School’s Back to NHS centenary celebration was a wonderful success, with past students, staff, families and friends returning to campus to reconnect, reflect and celebrate 100 years of the school community.
The event welcomed attendees spanning generations of NHS history. Stories and memories were shared throughout the day as Alumni reconnected with classmates, toured the school grounds and explored displays celebrating the rich history of NHS.
A particular highlight was the display of Ripples magazines from every year since 1945, which sparked conversation, laughter and reflection as visitors revisited moments from their school years and shared memories across generations.
The formal welcome featured Principal Chris Jones, School Council President Ben Hubbard, the Year 12 Captains and special guest speaker Ged Kearney MP, who spoke passionately about the importance of public education, community and the enduring role schools play in shaping lives. The celebration also included the cutting of the centenary cake and a performance of the 1957 school song by our Harmony Vocals students.
Across the school, guests enjoyed guided school tours, museum and historical displays, archival slideshow presentations, live music performances and displays of historical school uniforms. Musical performances throughout the day represented many decades of NHS history, with performances from Senior Strings, Harmony Vocals, Jazz Combo, Brass Ensemble, Jiminy’s Crickets and Senior Vocals.
The outdoor celebration atmosphere was enhanced by the Friends of Northcote sausage sizzle and the Student Leader bake sale.
There are so many people to thank for making the day such a success. From the staff and volunteers who prepared displays, organised logistics, rehearsed performances, baked, cooked, spoke and helped pack up afterwards, to the many staff members who attended and supported the event, the day truly reflected the strength and spirit of the Northcote High School community.
See some of the photos captured on the day, with many more to come as we continue celebrating the rich history and community of Northcote High School.
The Back to NHS event was a powerful reminder of the lasting friendships, memories and community spirit that continue to define NHS across generations.
We also remind our Alumni and community to keep an eye out for upcoming Centenary events, including the Centenary Concert and Centenary Art Show. Registrations are available via the Events section in Alumnly for our alumni and for our Community via Compasstix as the event approaches.
