From the Principal

As we move through the middle of Term 2, there continues to be a great deal happening across the school, with students actively involved in a broad range of learning opportunities, performances, camps, and sporting events. It has been wonderful to see such strong participation and enthusiasm across all year levels.
Over recent weeks, many of our students have represented the school in a variety of co-curricular activities. Today we will welcome back our Year 7s from their Adventure Camp experience to Phillip Island Adventure resort.
We were also delighted to recently host our Centenary Back to NHS event, which proved to be a wonderful celebration of our school’s history and community spirit. It was fantastic to welcome so many former students, staff, and community members back to the school to reconnect and share memories spanning many generations of Northcote High School. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who attended and contributed to the success of the event, as well as the many students who performed throughout the day and showcased the incredible talent within our school community. Their performances added greatly to the atmosphere and celebration of this significant milestone year.
Last week, families received the second round of Learning Behaviour Reports (LBRs). These reports provide an important opportunity for students to reflect on their learning behaviours, organisation, and engagement in classes as we approach the second half of the term. We encourage families to discuss the feedback together and support students in setting goals for continued improvement.
Next Wednesday (Week 7) will be a modified school day as we host our annual Course Selection Expo in The Hub during the afternoon and evening. This important event supports our current Year 8–11 students as they begin considering their pathways and subject selections for 2027. Families are encouraged to attend the information sessions relevant to their child’s year level and future planning, and we thank staff for the significant work involved in preparing students for this process.
Tuesday, 16 June, (Week 9) is a scheduled Curriculum Day. It coincides with the VCE General Achievement Test (GAT), meaning the day will not be pupil-free for all students. Those sitting the GAT will be required to attend. This scheduling helps us provide quiet, appropriate spaces for Year 12 VCE and VCE VM students during their assessments.
Our Friends of Northcote parent group is also continuing preparations for this term’s community events, and we thank the many families who support these opportunities. Further details can be found in this newsletter, some of our Friends of Northcote assisted with the lunch at the Back to NHS event which was greatly appreciated.
As always, thank you to our students, staff, and families for the energy and support you bring to our school community. I look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events throughout the remainder of the term.
