Product Design

Product Design students across all year levels have been busy in the workshops developing their practical skills, and visiting exhibitions across Melbourne to engage with contemporary and ancient design.

100 Chairs – Abbotsford Convent

The exhibition highlighted the creativity and diversity of chair design, from functional everyday seating to highly conceptual and artistic pieces. Students were able to see how 100 different designers responded to the same brief to create vastly different products.

Craft Victoria / NGV

Middle years students studying jewelry skills and woodwork visited Craft Victoria and the National Gallery of Victoria. Students were blown-away to see the prices of the hand-made jewelry similar to that they had made in Term 1! It was great to show how designers are able to make income from their craft, while also gaining insight into the many different ways materials can be used in functional products.

Wurrdha Marra NGV

8A explored First Nations design at the Wurrdha Marra exhibition at NGV. The exhibition provided students with an important opportunity to deepen their understanding of Indigenous perspectives in design and to appreciate the significance of design as a form of cultural expression, history and connection.

Back in the Classroom...

Our Year 7 students recently finished their first folio CAT! They designed accessible playgrounds and constructed detailed models of their ideas, focusing on inclusivity, creativity and user-centered design. Through this project, students have explored how universal design can create spaces that are welcoming and engaging for people of all abilities.
