Year 8 WheelTalk

The Year 8 students recently had the opportunity to participate in an exciting incursion – WheelTalk – as part of their inclusion unit for Physical Education. Throughout the session, students had the opportunity to experience wheelchair AFL, gaining a greater understanding of the importance of inclusion, accessibility, and adaptive sport.
Students demonstrated enthusiasm and teamwork while learning new skills and adapting to the challenges of playing sport in a wheelchair. The incursion provided valuable insights into the experiences of athletes with physical disabilities and highlighted how sport can be adapted so that everyone has the opportunity to participate and succeed. A highlight of the day was working with Peter from WheelTalk, a premiership wheelchair AFL player, who added energy, humor and knowledge to the session for the students.
Overall, the WheelTalk incursion was a fantastic learning experience that supported students’ understanding of inclusion while also promoting empathy, cooperation, and enjoyment through physical activity.
