From the Principal's Desk

As the end of Term 3 approaches, the past few weeks have been filled with enriching experiences that have brought learning to life for our students. We are also pleased to welcome several new students to our school, who have quickly settled in. A warm welcome to all our new WCC families!

Our students have attended and been involved in many classroom, school-based and extra-curricular activities, excursions and events. It has been a fantastic experience filled term with adventures, team-building activities, and learning inside and outside of our classrooms. The students have had a wonderful time celebrating many focus weeks as they continue to create lasting memories and achieve many milestones.  All events this term have been a huge success, and it was heartwarming to see so many students demonstrating our values of Respect, Cooperation and Excellence. Thank you to all our Wyndham Central College staff who have organised, supervised and helped make this term a special one.  Many of these experiences could not happen without the commitment, passion and enthusiasm of our staff and students volunteering their time.

This newsletter and our weekly bulletins and Compass posts provide many other highlights of student achievements and upcoming opportunities within the school and the local community for the remainder of the school year. I ask that you take the time to read the reports provided by the assistant principals, year level leaders and program leaders and continue to encourage student participation. Education is more than just what happens in four walls, and we pride ourselves on supporting the growth of well-rounded citizens able to thrive in a contemporary world.

Special Visitor.  I am always proud of our college but even more so on Tuesday 26th August when we hosted a special visit to the College by our Regional Director for the Southwest Victoria Region of schools.

Mr Chris Thompson was joined on the visit by our Area Director Silvana Sena. They enjoyed a tour of our school by our Year 12 Captains Tala and Alice and were able to visit our classrooms to speak with students and staff, our AVID centre to see a tutorial and learn about AVID from our year 9 elective class and had a visit with our Community Hub Link Centre and Student Services teams.

We were able to highlight the important work our school is doing in both teaching and learning and again demonstrate that we are a Community of High Expectations that are achieving wonderful results and ensuring we are developing happy, healthy and well-educated young people.

Year 12 students

Year 12 students are now on the homeward stretch and exams are just around the corner for most students. I ask that all Year 12 VCE and VCE/VM students reflect on the advice and preparation given to them by their teachers, which includes the term 3 report feedback.  I also ask all students to complete their interviews and processes with our Pathways and Transitions (Careers) teacher Ms Siragusano which that will support their future planning.  A final reminder is not to forgot to join our college Alumni program. We always love to hear about and support our students in all their future endeavours. I wish each student the very best of luck with the completion of final assessments, their exams and completion of 6 years of education at WCC. We hope that they continue to strive for excellence as I’m sure that their hard work will pay off and we are all able to celebrate at our Year 12 Farewell assembly and at our Valedictory dinner in October.

Student reports and student results

A printed copy of the term three interim report will be distributed to families in the last week of term.  If parents/carers did not receive their copy, I would like to remind you that all reports are available on COMPASS via your parent/carer login. Our students will be complete their report reflection in time for our Parent and Teacher interviews.

We look forward to seeing our parents and caregivers at our upcoming Parent and Teacher interviews on Tuesday the 16th of September. Rather than attend normal school hours, students attend this meeting with their parents or caregiver so that they are active participants in the reporting process and to also support planning their next steps and achieving their learning goals before we move into our 2026 Step Up classes next term.

We also appreciate all our parents who have taken the 5 -10 minutes to complete the parent survey. It is important for us to hear from all parents, and we encourage you, if you haven’t had the opportunity, to find a small amount of time to complete the survey and provide us with your valuable feedback.  The parent survey is confidential and the data we receive helps us develop our 2026 school plan. You will find a link via our school Compass posts and if you need any support to access the survey, please reach out via our Administration office or Community Hub.

We thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Term 3 ends on Friday the 19th of September and we return on Monday the 6th of October to start term 4. Please note that we have an additional student free day scheduled for Friday 10th of October as staff undertake their mandated Professional Practice Day.

I wish all families a relaxing and rejuvenating school holidays break.
