Community &

Positive Environment

Welcome to our latest newsletter! This edition is packed with highlights that showcase the incredible talent, spirit, and achievements of our students. From sporting triumphs on the field and court, to life-saving workshops and creative family programs, there is so much to celebrate.

It’s always inspiring to see our students engaging with new opportunities, working together, and representing Wyndham Central College with pride. None of this would be possible without the dedication of our staff, the support of our families, and the partnerships we continue to build within our wider community.

I hope you enjoy reading about the many activities and successes from this term—there’s a real sense of energy and momentum across our school, and we look forward to carrying that into the weeks ahead.

North Melbourne Players Visit WCC

Our school was buzzing with excitement as four players from the North Melbourne Football Club—the Kangaroos—joined us for a special visit featuring an inspiring Q&A session and a lively kick-to-kick on the oval.

Meet the Players

Paul Curtis – A lively small forward with sharp goal sense, Paul has played 73 games and kicked 87 goals since debuting in 2022. A key part of the Kangaroos’ attack, he signed on until the end of 2028.

Josh Goater – A tall, versatile utility who can play midfield or half-back. A lifelong North fan, Josh has played 12 games since debuting in 2022 and is pushing for a regular senior spot.

Robert Hansen Jr. – A quick and creative midfielder/forward from WA, Robert has played 17 games and kicked 7 goals since joining via the 2023 mid-season rookie draft.

Cooper Harvey – The son of North legend Brent Harvey, Cooper is a powerful small forward with 6 goals from 5 games since debuting in 2023.

Our students came prepared with some truly fantastic questions—everything from training routines and game-day preparation to the players’ favourite moments on the field. The four Kangaroos answered with enthusiasm, sharing personal stories, offering advice, and giving us a real insight into AFL life.

After the Q&A, it was straight to the oval for a spirited kick-to-kick session.

The morning wrapped up with autographs, photos, and plenty of smiles. Students left with signed jumpers, footy balls, and memories they’ll treasure.

We thank Paul, Josh, Robert, and Cooper for their time, energy, and generosity—it was an unforgettable day at WCC! Thanks to Nicole Atkinson, Troy West and Cooper Decker, who also supported the event.

9E Surf Life Saving Victoria Workshops

Our 9E students recently took part in Surf Life Saving Victoria workshops, where they gained valuable skills in two important areas:

  • Beach Awareness – learning how to read surf conditions, identify rips, and stay safe at the beach.
  • First Aid – building confidence and practical skills to respond in an emergency, including basic first aid scenarios.
  •

A huge thank you to Surf Life Saving Victoria, who not only delivered the workshops but also fully fund the program, making it possible for our students to access such valuable learning opportunities.

As the next step in the program, students will participate in an excursion to the beach in November, where they’ll put their knowledge into practice in a real coastal environment.

The students engaged really positively across both sessions, and it’s fantastic to see them building life skills that will stay with them well beyond the classroom.

Thanks to Ms Zhou, Ms Herbert, Kaw Koo and Millie Ner Moo who helped with the program. Here are some pictures below:

Family Cooking Club Wrap-Up

Over the past few weeks, our Family Cooking Club has been full of laughter, learning, and of course, lots of delicious food! Families came together to cook, share, and enjoy meals while building confidence in the kitchen and learning new skills.

A big thank you to Foodbank for supporting this program and providing the ingredients that made it possible. Your generosity helped bring families together around the table.

Throughout the sessions, we explored a range of healthy, fun, and family-friendly recipes, including:

🥢 Rice Paper Rolls – fresh, colourful, and filled with veggies.

🍕 Homemade Pizzas – everyone’s favourite, with toppings made to suit all tastes.

🥬 Fried Rice Lettuce Cups – a healthy twist on a classic, packed with flavour.

🥞 Okonomiyaki – a Japanese-style savoury pancake that was a hit with all ages.

It was fantastic to see families getting hands-on, trying new flavours, and working together to create meals from scratch. The best part was sitting down at the end of each session to share what we had cooked – turning recipes into real connections.

We’re so grateful to everyone who joined in, and we can’t wait to see more families back in the kitchen next time!

Here are a few photos from our families!

Year 7 Call, Push, Shock Program

Congratulations to our Year 7 students who participated in the Call, Push, Shock program  sponsored by Ambulance Victoria and Department of Education.

Students learned vital life-saving skills including how to recognise an emergency, call for help, and perform CPR with the use of an AED. These are skills that could one day make a real difference in someone’s life.

We were so impressed with the way students engaged in the session, they were super eager to volunteer to participate, answer questions, and gave their best effort in the practical activities.

A follow-up lesson will take place in WYN Time to reinforce these important skills and give students another chance to reflect on their learning.

A massive thanks to Sefania who co-presented this workshop

Well done Year 7s – you should be very proud!
