Principal's Message
Term 3 - Week 6
As part of our ongoing commitment to student health and safety we are a Sunmart School. We will be implementing our SunSmart policy beginning Monday, 1st September.
From this date forward, all students will be required to wear a hat while outdoors during school hours, including recess, lunch, and PE lessons. This initiative is designed to protect students from harmful UV exposure and encourage lifelong sun safety habits.
On Monday, we held a ceremony to officially open our new school buildings. We were honoured to welcome Shaun Leane MP, who took the time to tour the new facilities, engage with students and staff, and even participate in part of a phonics lesson with a 1/2 class.
His visit provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase the fantastic learning environment we've created, as well as the hard work and dedication of our school community. The event concluded with Mr Leane formally declaring the buildings open, marking an exciting new chapter for our school. Our school captains along with retired principal Kim Streitberger cut the ribbon and cake.
We are thrilled to see these new spaces being used to support student learning and development, and we look forward to the many opportunities they will provide in the years to come.
Eleven of our Year 5 and 6 students have recently returned from Somers, where they spent nine days attending a residential camp filled with exciting activities and valuable learning experiences.
Last week, I had the chance to drop by for lunch and see the students in action. It was great to catch a glimpse of their energy and enthusiasm. The camp also hosted a Family Visitor Day on Sunday, allowing parents and guardians to join in and share part of the experience with their children.
We are all eager to hear from the students about their adventures and what they learned throughout the camp. What stood out to me during my visit was the wonderful new connections and friendships that had formed among the students. It was clear that the camp had not only been a fun and challenging experience but also a powerful opportunity for building strong bonds and lasting memories.
We look forward to hearing more stories from the students as they reflect on this valuable experience.
A wonderful highlight this week has been our junior students enjoying access to the playground. Having this space back has opportunities for play and social interaction, allowing our younger students to make the most of their recess and outdoor time.
It has been fantastic to see them running, playing, and exploring the playground with so much enthusiasm and joy. This new access not only supports their physical development but also encourages creativity, teamwork, and friendship-building during their breaks.
Foundation Grandparents & Special Friends Day will be a wonderful occasion where our youngest students get to welcome their grandparents and special friends into the school. It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate these important relationships and share the children’s learning and creativity with the people who support them the most.
Our Year 5 and 6 students will be heading off to Camp Oasis, where they will take part in a range of fun and challenging activities designed to build teamwork, resilience, and confidence. We look forward to hearing all about their adventures and the new skills they gain from this exciting camp experience.
We have two fantastic events planned for the week beginning Monday, 15th September.
Footy Day – Monday, 15th September
Our enthusiastic Sports and House Captains will be hosting a Footy Day to celebrate the spirit of the game and get everyone active and involved. Students are encouraged to come dressed in their favourite football team colours or jerseys. There will be a variety of fun footy-themed activities and games throughout the day, promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit.
School Disco – Thursday, 18th September
Get ready to dance! On Thursday, our Community Leaders will be running a School Disco for each year level. This is a great opportunity for students to let loose, have fun with their friends, and enjoy some music and dancing in a safe and supervised environment. Each level will have its own session.
Both events are student-led initiatives and a fantastic way to build leadership, community, and school pride. We can’t wait to see everyone get involved and have a great time!
Enjoy the weekend.
