We hope you and your families had a restful and refreshing break. Term 3 is always an exciting and important part of the school year in Middle School—a time filled with rich learning experiences, growing independence, and significant milestones for our students.
Over the coming weeks, students will engage in a variety of activities that extend beyond the classroom, including key events such as subject selection processes, information nights, and programs that support their academic and personal growth. It’s a term that focuses on looking ahead—helping students make informed decisions and plan for the next stages of their educational journey.
We look forward to partnering with you to ensure that each student is supported, challenged, and inspired throughout the term. Please keep an eye on Compass for updates and important dates.
Here’s to a successful and rewarding Term 3!
Subject selection
As we begin planning for the year ahead, students are currently engaging in the important process of subject selection for the next academic year. This is a significant step in their learning journey, as the choices they make now can influence their future pathways, interests, and career aspirations. We hope that the information sessions run over the last few weeks have helped guide you.
We kindly ask that you take an active role in supporting your child through this process. Discussing their interests, strengths, and future goals at home can help them make informed and confident decisions about their learning. Your guidance and encouragement are invaluable during this time of exploration and forward planning.
Year 9 City Experience – An Exciting Learning Adventure
We are thrilled to share that our Year 9 City Experience is just around the corner! In the last week of this Term, from Monday 15th to Thursday 18th September, students will spend four engaging days immersed in the heart of Melbourne, exploring key cultural, artistic, and historical landmarks.
Throughout the week, students will visit iconic locations such as the Eureka Skydeck, the National Gallery of Victoria, and other fascinating destinations around the CBD. This program is designed not only to broaden their understanding of our vibrant city but also to foster essential life skills.
The City Experience encourages students to develop independence, responsibility, and trust in themselves and their peers. Navigating public transport, managing time, and working collaboratively in small groups are just a few of the ways students will rise to the challenge and grow throughout the week.
At the moment, students are in the process of choosing their groups, and there is a real sense of excitement as they prepare for this experience together.
Please note that Friday 19th September will be a home-based reflection day, where students will complete a structured activity to consolidate their learning and reflect on their experience.
A reminder to parents and carers: Please ensure you have provided consent and made payment via Compass to secure your child’s participation in this valuable learning program.
We look forward to seeing our Year 9 students embrace this exciting opportunity and come away with lasting memories, new skills, and a deeper connection to their community.
Attendance
As we progress through this term, we want to take a moment to emphasise the vital role that strong attendance plays in student learning and success. Regular attendance is essential for students to fully engage with their lessons, understand new concepts, and build the skills needed to reach their academic goals.
Without consistent attendance, students miss out on valuable instruction and classroom interactions, which can impact their overall progress. Research shows that students with strong attendance are more likely to achieve better results and feel more confident in their learning journey.
This term, our school is carefully monitoring attendance patterns. Where concerns arise, we will be contacting families to work together in supporting consistent attendance and addressing any challenges.
We also want to remind families of the importance of logging all absences on Compass promptly. Unexplained absences create gaps in records and can delay necessary follow-up. It is a shared responsibility and part of your duty of care to ensure all absences are recorded with a clear explanation.
Thank you for your ongoing support in helping us provide the best learning environment for your child. Together, we can ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive through regular attendance.
If you have any questions or need assistance with logging absences, please don’t hesitate to contact the front office or Middle School.
