FareShare Excursion
On Wednesday, July 23, twenty-two students were selected to go on an excursion to Abbotsford to visit an organisation called FareShare, which partners with SecondBite.
FareShare is a charity that rescues surplus food from local supermarkets and turns it into nutritious meals for people in need.
The day began with an hour-long drive into the city. When we arrived at FareShare, we were welcomed by a team of friendly volunteers and the head chef, Otis, who guided us throughout the day. During our time there, we helped with various tasks such as weighing and packaging meals filled with beef casserole and potatoes. We also sorted tomatoes, chopped broccoli, and dished out pasta. It was hands-on work, but very rewarding.
By the end of the session, we had helped prepare an incredible 4,920 meals. It felt amazing to know that our efforts would directly support people doing it tough.
Overall, the excursion was not only fun but also eye-opening. It gave us a deeper understanding of how important volunteering is and how even small actions can make a big difference in the community.

From FareShare:
Thank you for bringing the Diamond Valley College students into the Schools Kitchen on Wednesday 23 July. We appreciate your time and support in providing much needed nourishment and peace of mind for less fortunate people in our community.
While you were here, you:
Assembled 750 beef casserole meals
Packed 610 serves of soup
Open and trayed 360 chickens
Trayed-up pasta for approximately 800 meals
Cut 80kg broccoli
Trayed tomatoes for 800 meals
Cleaned and reset the kitchen
Please thank the students on our behalf and on behalf of the many people who have benefited from their generosity. We hope that their experience in the School’s Kitchen has inspired them and reinforced the idea that anyone and everyone can help others who are less fortunate.
We would welcome any further contributions from your students who feel empowered to serve the community through fundraising or organising a food drive to help FareShare continue to rescue food, cook nutritious meals and feed the community.
Kind Regards,

On July 29th myself and 20 other DVC students were selected to help at the Diamond Creek East Primary School Athletics day. On the Day we were asked to assist with starting and timing races and measuring certain distances for the field events. Each group was assigned to a different event for the whole day. These events included the 200M, 100M, 80M Hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump and Triple Jump. Overall, we had an amazing day out enjoying the sun and the beautiful weather.
