100 Days of School Fun!
The time has finally arrived. We have celebrated the exciting milestone of 100 days of school! We are so proud of our wonderful Foundation students for reaching this achievement, with so much learned, accomplished, and enjoyed along the way.
The laughter, giggles, and excitement could be heard from far and wide. Everyone shone, sparkled, and glowed in their specially designed T-shirts representing the 100 days, each one unique and full of personality. A huge thank you to our families for your help, creativity, and support in making this day such a success.
We began with an Acknowledgement of Country, followed by our confident student representatives sharing their highlights from their first 100 days. The celebrations continued with a lively parade, cheered on by our buddy classes and proud parents, a truly heart-warming sight.
Throughout the day, the children enjoyed a variety of '100 days' themed activities: making colourful crowns, playing outside, eating fairy bread, reading beautiful letters from our buddy classes, and of course, the highlight – a disco filled with dancing, singing, games, and endless fun.
The only disappointment of the day? Finding out they are still in Foundation and not moving to Grade One just yet!
We can’t wait to see what the next 100 days will bring for our clever, curious, and enthusiastic learners.
Dr Loz at Science Play Kids
The Year 1 students all had a fantastic time visiting Dr Loz at Science Play Kids last week. During their sessions, they took part in a number of hands-on experiments that encouraged curiosity, creativity, and careful observation. The focus was on looking, listening closely, and noticing changes — whether it was a colour shift, a change from liquid into slime, or a fizz of gas! As well as engaging our STEM minds, Dr Loz also reminded us that mistakes are a vital part of learning, especially in science. We all loved the chance to share predictions, explore, test ideas, and learn that every 'oops' moment is just another step in our science discovery journey.
Year 2 students have been busy working on building their knowledge and understanding of how their behaviour has an impact on others. We looked at the ripple effect and how kindness or being disrespectful can have an effect on people far beyond ourselves. To demonstrate this we created an artwork called, 'Kindness Creates Ripples'.
We also looked at integrity and what it means to demonstrate this quality.
Some of the big questions we discussed in class.
District Athletics Day at the Newport Track
Tammi, Eliza and Terry were SO INCREDIBLY PROUD that NLPS managed to come SECOND overall in the District Athletics competition on Wednesday! Not only do we have some absolute legends on the track but the behaviour displayed today by every student who attended was fantastic!
⭐️ Did You Know? ⭐️
Auslan is not an acronym — it's a blended word formed from Australian Sign Language.
That means it doesn’t need to be written in all capital letters. Just like English or Japanese, it only needs a capital letter at the beginning when used in a sentence.
Foundation Students Tee Off in STEM
This term in STEM, Foundation students have been learning all about how things move. To show their understanding, the students created their very own mini golf courses — and the results were both fun and full of learning!
During the lesson, students explored how pushes and pulls can change the direction and speed of objects. They also discovered how different obstacles can affect movement. Using this knowledge, each group worked together to plan and build a creative mini golf hole.
There were tunnels, ramps, curves and even a few tricky traps! The students showed amazing teamwork, creativity, and communication as they built their golf challenges.
Well done, Foundation! You're future engineers in the making.
2025 STEM Challenge
A huge thank you to all the students who participated in our 2025 STEM Challenge! This year we saw an amazing variety of projects, including 3D models, drone photography, booklets, and posters. The creativity and effort that went into each entry was inspiring, and it was fantastic to see so many different ideas come to life.
The display at the front of the STEM room has been a real talking point, with students and staff stopping by to admire the work. It’s a wonderful showcase of the talent and imagination in our school community.
Well done to everyone involved – you’ve made this year’s STEM Challenge a great success! Below are some photos of the display.
As part of National Science Week, some of our 3/4 students took part in an interactive webinar with one of Australia’s most iconic science communicators — Dr Karl. They had the opportunity to ask questions and explore the mysteries of the universe, all linked to this year’s theme: 'Decoding the Universe: Exploring the unknown with nature’s hidden language'.
