5/6 MCG excursion

The 5/6 students had a wonderful time at the MCG this week.

They explored the wonderful history of the MCG and amazing stories about AFL, Cricket, Olympics and other sport in Melbourne.

Year 1/2M and RS in the kitchen

Students have been really excited to get back into the kitchen and prepare some delicious meals. We are focussing on school lunch box ideas, that are healthy and recquire no wrapping. Students loved topping their Greek yoghurt with freshly zested citrus and honey, as well as their chocolate 'banana' lamingtons. Last week we prepared a delicious raspberry and chocolate slice for our Grandparents day. This week we prepared samosa with a yoghurt sauce. It is lovely to see how engaged they all are in preparing their meal, and trying something new. Please watch out for further meals we prepare in the coming weeks.

1/2RS Dancing

In our room we love nothing more than a dance when we need to give our brains a break from learning. YMCA was a huge hit this week, and I'm certain will be requested more than once again in coming weeks.

Prep seedlings

When the prep students visited the farm a few weeks ago, they created some paper plant pots and planted some seeds.  We were fortunate to have them donated to the garden. Look this week we found in the garden, the seeds are starting to sprout. Watch this space for more develpoments!

Italian Program – Term 3 Update

Our students are continuing their Italian learning journey with enthusiasm and curiosity this term, exploring exciting new units and engaging in collaborative learning experiences across all year levels.

  • Prep Unit 1: La Famiglia / The Family Prep students are learning to identify and name family members in Italian through songs, storytelling, and classroom discussions. They’re starting to use simple phrases to talk about their own families.
  • Year 1/2 Unit 1: La Mia Famiglia / My Family Year 1 and 2 students are expanding their vocabulary and building full sentences. They’re enjoying the story La Nonna e gli Occhiali by Maria Bonica Lyon, which supports language learning while connecting to the family theme.
  • Year 3/4 Unit 1: Research Project: 'ITALIA' Year 3 and 4 students are exploring Italian culture through research into Italy’s regions, landmarks, food, and traditions. They're developing inquiry and presentation skills while strengthening cultural understanding.
  • Year 5/6 Unit 1: Understanding Grammar & Reading ComprehensionSenior students are working on their grammar and reading skills, learning to identify and use key grammar structures in Italian texts and in their own writing.

Collaborative Learning Highlights: Italian

  • Buddy Italian SessionsThis term, our Year 3/4 students partnered with Prep students for buddy Italian sessions. These sessions provided a fun and supportive environment where older students helped Preps practice Italian vocabulary through games and shared activities.
  • Multi-Age Italian ActivitiesWe also held multi-age Italian sessions, where Year 3–6 students created Italian Kahoot quizzes for our Prep–Year 2 students. This was a fantastic opportunity for leadership, collaboration, and reinforcing language skills in a playful and interactive way.

It’s been a joyful and productive term in Italian. Bravissimi to all our students for their creativity, teamwork, and commitment to language learning!

Book Week 2025 – 80 Years of Celebration!

Next week, we will be celebrating Book Week  with a range of exciting activities for our students. This year marks the 80th year of Book Week, so we’re going big with our celebrations!

The theme for 2025 is “Book an Adventure”, which has inspired each class to choose a CBCA Shortlisted Book to explore in depth.

On Thursday 21st August at 9:00am, we will hold our much-loved Book Week Dress-Up Parade in the hall. Students are encouraged to dress as:

  • A character from the CBCA book their class is focusing on
  • Or something connected to or inspired by the story from the CBCA book their class is focusing on

Please refer to your child’s teacher email for the class theme, book title, and costume ideas.

After the parade, students will take part in a range of rotational activities and enjoy a shared lunch to celebrate our Book Week adventures. Please keep an eye out for the Operoo note with more details. . A very special thanks to Kat (Neo’s mum from PrepDM ) for helping me  in organizing the books week events & for especially organizing the shared lunch.

We can’t wait to see all the amazing costumes and enjoy a week full of adventure!!

We are thrilled to welcome well-known Australian author Leigh Hobbs to our school for an engaging workshop with students. This is a wonderful opportunity for our young readers and writers to learn from a celebrated storyteller.
