Prep Learning Reflection

Last week, we celebrated Book Week! It was an incredible time exploring some of the short listed texts that we have at school and we were so excited to have Kelly Brodie-Brown visit us and read her recently published picture book 'The Style Secrets of Gareth McGreen'! The students had an amazing time with their costumes during the book week parade.

In Literacy, we've been reading a wide range of non-fiction texts and learning about their features. This fortnight focused on the images found in non-fiction texts and also learnt about glossaries and bolded vocabulary words.

We've linked a lot of our writing to the information texts we've read, but have also written facts about safety to link our writing to our unit of work topic. We had the firefighters visit us twice over the past fortnight and learnt about fire safety, what to do if there is a fire, 000 and safe meeting spots. We also got to use the hoses on the fire truck!

In phonics, we've been working on Unit 8 and 9 of SoundsWrite, which practices reading words where we are blending consonant sounds both at the beginning and at the ends of words (e.g. jump, spin).

In Numeracy, we've been learning how to say and write two-digit numbers and have been using our bundling sticks to make these numbers.

We've also been learning about comparing lengths areas and capacities as well as turning and moving 2D shapes.

Next week is swimming week! A reminder to make sure students have their bathers on under their school clothes every day when they come to school. In their swimming bags, they should have a clean towel, an empty plastic bag for wet clothes, goggles and dry, clean underwear that they can use after their lessons when changing back into their school uniform. Please make sure EVERY item of clothes and belongings (including towel and underwear) has a name on written on the label. Please see Mr. Dane’s Compass posts for further info or see your child’s classroom teacher.
