Week 5 & 6 Updates

chooPerforming Arts

These past two weeks, students have been deep into their projects.

Prep students have been practicing their acting skills by working in small groups to bring fairy tales to life. With support from an older student leader, they have collaborated to choose their characters, decide where to perform in the room, and select props to enhance their stories. It has been wonderful to see the Preps applying their understanding of drama elements and confidently giving their performances a go.

Grades 1 and 2 students have been busy planning their group performances. They have worked together to assign roles, design their settings, and begin writing their scripts. Their teamwork and creativity have been impressive!

Grades 3 to 6 have continued developing their ‘fractured fairy tales.’ In small groups, they have combined two different stories to create new, imaginative tales. Students have allocated characters, written scripts, and even started acting out scenes.

I am proud of all the students for their enthusiasm, collaboration, and creativity in these projects!

Physical Education

Swimming Program

Our annual Prep - 2 swimming program begins on the 1st of September and we have made enough spots for every student to attend. Please confirm consent and payment on Compass to ensure your child attends.

We are excited to announce that our annual Prep to Year 2 Swimming Program will commence on Monday, 1st September. This much-loved program is an important part of our physical education curriculum, helping students build water confidence, learn essential swimming skills, and develop safety awareness around water.

District Athletics

On Friday 22nd of August we had some of our students represent the school at the district level athletics carnival. It was an amazing day where we competed with spirit, determination and sportsmanship. We had some incredible results with our 12 year old girls winning the 100m relay and our 11 year old boys placing second in the same event. On top of that, a lot of our students qualified for the next round regional carnival in September. Our success on the day is a reminder that our students hard work during P.E lessons, interschool sport and lunch time clubs is producing high level results in all sporting events at the district level. As a school we need to keep working together in pushing ourselves and our class mates to make the right choices, train harder and support each other. Congratulations to all our students who competed on the day.

Spanish

¡¡HOLA!! ¿CÓMO ESTÁIS?

During weeks 3 and 4, we’ve focused on practising the vocabulary and new structures across all year levels.

PREPS: This weeks we dived into the world of the school bag and school supplies! Students had fun “packing” items inside a bag, using a big illustrated picture to bring the activity to life.

Grades 1–2: Our hobbies unit is in full swing! We’ve been using me gusta… + hobby in different games and activities, including lively interactive practice on iPads.

Grades 3–4: Our Spanish art journey continues! We explored inspiring techniques from Spanish-speaking artists such as muralism, geometric art, surrealism and pointillism. Students are busy creating an illustrated booklet to collect and show off their new vocabulary, while also practising shape names in Spanish.

Grades 5–6: We’ve begun exploring places in the city and connecting them with hobbies that can be enjoyed there. Students worked through engaging activities both individually and as a team.

We’re super excited to announce that next week we’ll kick off preparations for our Spanish Fiesta – this year celebrating Chile

Stay tuned – more information is coming your way very soon!

Visual Arts

It’s been a wonderful fortnight of learning, exploring, and creating in the Art Room!

Prep

Last week, our Prep students explored the fascinating world of insects we might find down by the creek. We focused on the bright and beautiful ladybug, then used collage to create ladybugs in their own habitats with stunning results! This week, we’ve stepped back in time to learn about the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh. We’ve been inspired by his masterpiece The Starry Night, starting our own versions with swirling, watercolour backdrops. Students are learning how to layer cool colours to create depth and atmosphere.

Grade 1 & 2

Our Grade 1 and 2 students have completed their gorgeous patterned flowers and they look absolutely amazing! This week, we’ve moved into sculpture, creating 3D butterflies using foil and clay. Students have loved watching their butterflies come to life.

Years 3–6

Grade 3–6:Our senior students have just wrapped up their Indigenous Culture art pieces. They studied birds-eye view maps of our local area over time, noticing how the land has changed and what these changes reveal. Now, they’re creating their own artistic maps, featuring significant landmarks and flowing through them all our much-loved Kororoit Creek.
