Anthony's Message

Dear Sunny Families

David continues to enjoy a family holiday overseas and I'm sure he's making the most of the northern summer. We will welcome him back on Monday the 15th of September.

Something we are very proud of at Sunshine Heights Primary School is the wide depth and breadth of activities and experiences we offer our students. Our teaching and support staff are always looking at ways to engage and enrich the curriculum through whole school events, incursions and excursions.

Last week we had two wonderful examples of this with our Book Week celebrations and parade on Thursday and the District Athletics Carnival at Newport Athletics track last Friday.

We celebrated books and all things literacy last week in grand style with an author visit from one of our talented parents Kellie Brodie-Brown. Her picture book The Style Secrets of Gareth McGreen was featured as she read and shared her expertise and knowledge as a writer with our students. A growing tradition at our school has been classes decorating their classroom doors to celebrate a favourite book. The creativity and colour has brightened our corridors. The costume parade this year was a highlight and the level of effort that went into our characters outfits from students and staff was impressive.

I would like to make a special mention of the students who represented our school at the district athletics last Friday. We had a very successful day on the track and field with many students showing off an array of ribbons and progressing to the next level of regional athletics. This result is a testament to the excellent physical education program and sporting opportunities that our PE teacher Dane Barun is fostering.  Just as we do through our classroom and other specialist programs the PE program takes a thorough approach to curriculum and engages many community and network resources to enhance outcomes for our students.

The end of term is fast approaching and we still have so much on the horizon at our school with swimming programs and camps coming up in the next few weeks. I hope everyone has some moments for a breath as we hurtle towards the end of term.

Best Wishes

The Sunny Heights Team
