Year 2 News
What a great and busy start to Term 3 we have had so far. Here is a brief overview of what we have covered:
Unit of Inquiry
We have started a new Unit of Inquiry “Sharing the planet”. Our Central Idea is living things go through a process of change. Our Lines of Inquiry are:
Recognizing common features of minibeasts
- Lifecycles the minibeasts go through
- How living things change over their lifetime
- The relationship between living things
We brainstormed what we knew about living things, processes and change in groups and wrote examples or other similar words to explain their meaning. We listed what we know about minibeasts, what we want to learn and wrote a question that we would like to discover the answer to related to this Unit.
We were lucky enough to have our school’s science teacher Dani Jones work with the Year 2 students to come up with a “Code of Caring” Poster to make sure we understand how to look after any minibeasts we may find.
Maths
We have been looking at vertical subtraction without regrouping. Some children have been working with likeminded students and extended to being exposed to how to regroup two-, three- and four-digit numbers.
We also looked at the relationship between addition and subtraction through facts families.
We have had fun looking at flip, slide and turn and completing a jigsaw of a camel where the given shape may have had to be changed or stayed the same to fit.
Wellbeing Incursion
The year two children attended the “Sticks and Stones” incursion.
It was a fun and inclusivewellbeing program that reinforcedpositive relationships and supported children to build confidenceandsocial/ emotional skills.
