Wednesday, 21 August - The Great Book Swap

SWAP A BOOK…CHANGE A LIFE

The Great Book Swap

We are pleased to announce the OLF Annual Great Book Swap. On 21st August, this event is dedicated to supporting the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) in its mission to provide books and educational resources to help address the literacy gap for children living in remote communities across Australia.

The Great Book Swap offers a wonderful opportunity to celebrate local reading, gain insights into Indigenous languages and cultures, and contribute to a worthy cause. This year, the ILF aims to raise $150,000, which will enable them to distribute 15,000 new books to remote communities.  We invite you to participate by bringing a book from home to swap on Wednesday, August 21st, and by making a gold coin donation. Showing great commitment to social justice

Naplan reports indicate that although there has been some improvement in literacy rates in Indigenous students in urban areas of Australia, the figures for remote locations are appalling. Only 35% of Indigenous students in very remote areas are achieving at or above minimum standard in Reading in Year 5, compared to 95% of non-indigenous students in our major cities.

The Great Book Swap is a fantastic way to celebrate reading locally and raise much-needed funds. The idea is to swap a favourite book in exchange for another, for a gold coin donation. Students will have the opportunity on the 21st of August to view the donated books and make a selection.  All funds raised will go to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

Thank you for your support, we look forward to celebrating the National Great Book Swap with your child.

Book Week Extravaganza

Friday, 23 August - The OLF community is invited to attend our Book Week Extravaganza. The day will start with a Book Week parade on the top playground beginning at 9:30am, where students will groove their way around in their costumes. During the parade, the vocal, drama and dance ensemble will also be performing. This will be followed by parents and carers being invited into the classrooms. The library will be open for parents to view their children’s Book Week artworks as well as the opportunity to purchase a book at the Book Fair.  During Lunch 1, please feel free to bring a picnic rug and food, remembering we are a nut free school to enjoy a picnic with your children

We look forward to celebrating the "wonderful world of magical books!"
